1. I obtained the new middle school sex education curriculum that was just approved by the Florida Department of Education.

It excludes almost all information about sex.

Follow this thread for details.

A new middle school sex education curriculum in Orange County, Florida, obtained by Popular Information, eliminates previous lessons on the reproductive system, contraception, and consent.

Sotomayor scoffs at suggestion that democratic process will protect trans people: "When you’re 1% of the population or less, it's very hard to see how the democratic process will protect you."

Adds: There are many more Black people/women, & the dem process "didn't protect them for whole centuries"

Around this time every year, I share a list of ways to support Native people. From supporting Indigenous people seeking abortion care to defending Native voting rights and keeping Native families together, here are some causes worth supporting. 🧵

waiting to hear back about one of my letters of rec (very last minute, long story) but i am almost done with grad school apps. and then i get several months to stress about what happens if i don’t get in. and if all goes well, then i get to repeat this process in two years for when i pursue a PhD.

I've been thinking a lot about Phyllis Frye who organized the first Trans Lobby Day in 1996. Trans people have been going in and out of the Capitol building--including its bathrooms--for a very long time

The Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight served as a nice reminder that the old world is dead, but that those in power have no plans for the future other than to try to make money for themselves. And at the end of the day we're all just annoyed and disappointed

it’s been a rough few weeks as a trans person in the US. this morning, i was struck by the beauty and love in the comments of a blogspot post about Rachel Harlow, a trans woman from philly who appears in the 1968 documentary The Queen pre-transition. i wanted to share some love in this hard time.

I wrote about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s various weird ideas about HIV/AIDS, and why they could soon become the rest of the world's problem if he becomes HHS secretary. In the words of one expert I spoke to, "I can't believe we're having this conversation." www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
RFK Jr. has made false and dangerous claims about AIDS. That could become a global problem.
Will the United States abandon life-saving efforts to research and fight the virus?

Trans day of remembrance. Don't just focus on those trans people who have been murdered by strangers in public. Also remember the trans people who were denied healthcare, allowed to die in prison, encouraged to kill themselves by their loved ones, buried under the wrong name by their families.

Important note for reporters covering the GOP's effort to ban trans women from bathrooms on Capitol Hill: while Sarah McBride and Nancy Mace both have private bathrooms in their offices, the trans people who are not elected officials who have to work there every day do not.

This Trans Day of Remembrance, the only message I have is:

It's not enough to remember us, you need to support us while we're still here.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. It exists to remind us of those those in our community we have lost to violence, which trans people are four times more likely to experience than cis people. This is our reality: bigotry, harassment, and violence are ever-present, and yet we still find joy.
