Computational sociolinguist interested in how groups negotiate meaning and social coordination. Because I’ve been working with transformers since 2018, very not into AI hype.

It's kinda a joke amongst my friends and family that I can ruin everything by talking about the scary privacy implications of most of the tech folks are adopting these days.

I've managed to steer them all clear of Alexas at least. Working on the Rings.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

There are a lot of critiques of unregulated capitalism out there. But another one ought to be “if someone can do this to your country’s economy—twice—then that’s a bad system.”
Altman has been quite clear about his strategy.

From the 2008 crash he learned that if you bind enough of the economy to your business you can do whatever you like; government will decide the rules no longer apply.

What he's selling is unaccountabilty.
I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.

What does OpenAI offer the world?

This stresses me out so much. I already do my best to avoid places in stores where foot traffic is likely because that level of sustained social prediction is incredibly stressful and draining. Just let me be the cryptid I was born to be…

I’m not going to Target anytime soon…
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Y'all. Me, my advisor, and some of my lab mates took a very big swing and submitted a paper to Science. And we made it past the desk reject phase, and made it to "to review" in their CTS!! I cannot stress how over the moon I am that there's any interest at all in our research 🤗

Wish us luck!

For folks who haven’t voted yet in CA: prop 50? The text says it sunsets in 2031. So if you were convinced that this change is going to permanently override our system of districting, some wonk already made sure it won’t. All it does is give us a temporary chance to fight bad fed policy. #vote

Answer: no. ChatGPT has no understanding of what words mean. Collocation frequencies of words can’t bring you understanding of what those words mean, even though it might help you predict which words go together.

Gonna keep screaming about this, but see last post… Nick Nazi and friends do this because, like the Nazis of old, they can (and do) lean on hate speech to consolidate influence. Thats (one of) HS’ actual #linguistic functions … bsky.app/profile/zaqd...

Gonna go fume and weep over all this again BRB
The Heritage Foundation president just did the dril "issuing correction on a previous post of mine, regarding the terror group ISIL. you do not, under any circumstances, 'gotta hand it to them'" bit about Nick Fuentes

If the OP author truly believed that then I challenge them to think about why it is they decided to defend LLMs rather than agreeing with and extending the prior utterance they responded to (like an LLM would).
I have pondered this sentence and am now dumber for having done so
