An immense thank you again to @cbias.bsky.social committee, sponsors and fellow imaging friends for this fantastic symposium!
It's is not the end but the beginning of tons of papers to read, colleagues to contact, new collaborations to form. And most importantly, it's a 'see you soon' #CBIAS2026 🔬🥰

popEVE is out in Nature Genetics! 🎉
We built a proteome-wide model that combines cross-species and human population variation to rank missense variants by disease severity and help diagnose rare genetic disorders.

And this is 10x in academia and other work settings
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Here we go! #CBIAS2025 has just started and this was already a 🔥🔥🔥 morning. No sky posts from me as I was sharing the first session but please check @cbias.bsky.social for a distilled preview of what has been discussed.
Now moving to the afternoon session with plant and animal imaging 💚

How does messenger RNA (mRNA) get out of the nucleus to become a protein? Eukaryotic mRNA is packaged, exported, and then translated in the cytoplasm. But how do these steps work? And what are open questions? Check out our new review for our take: www.annualreviews.org/content/jour... (1/3)

Messenger RNA is made in the nucleus before it is exported to the cytoplasm for translation. But how are only correctly made mRNAs chosen and remodeled in the nucleus for export?
Our new paper investigates the nuclear events leading to human mRNA export. www.nature.com/articles/s41.... (1/4)

I'm a longtime fan of Affinity Designer as an affordable Illustrator-killer for figures, and... it's now free?! www.canva.com/newsroom/new...
Highly recommended if you're sick of paying Adobe $. Maybe Canva can buy NPG too and get rid of the OA fees.
Why we made Affinity free, and how we’ll keep it that way
We’ve made Affinity completely free, empowering professional designers with studio-grade creative software, supported by Canva’s sustainable ecosystem.

I work with large collections of AnnDatas for single-cell work and got tired of opening notebooks for simple operations. Built a CLI tool to handle some common stuff directly from the terminal.

Quick ops: downsample, concat, pseudobulk, QC, metadata export, etc.
