This poem is dedicated to anyone making a start on their advent calendar today.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Panther and share the love.

It was probably too busy sniggering

Mud all down my back. Had to strip off and put everything in the wash. I found it funny. Might have felt differently if I’d landed on my face!

Glorious autumn day. Daz enjoyed it so much, he planted his toes when it was time to come home and wanted to keep going. I managed to slip and end up on my backside in thick mud. Luckily the landing was soft! Felt like a kid again playing mud pies.
Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

I put two pieces of my work written pre-GenAI through a checker. Both times it said I’d used AI at above 80% probability and offered to make my writing more ‘human’ at a price.
Interesting from the Eye. I wonder if anyone told them that false positives in AI detection are more likely for English as additional language students, and neurodivergent students?

Very cool!! I did some work in Barnsley when I was at the University of Huddersfield and we had a campus there some time ago. Worked with some wonderful people in local government and local organisations. This looks like it has the potential to be something special and I’m going to watch closely.

This looks amazing. Here’s to Barnsley’s youngsters, parents, and the University of Sheffield.

Aha! We’ve developed an alternative Stage 2. Initiate the lean ourselves. Stroke ears. Lull into false sense of security. Stage 3 set off in the direction that originally caused the toe planting. Doesn’t always work but surprisingly high success rate for us!

I so know the feeling when they plant their toes and you know there’s no moving them. And the standing next to them offering a lean until they do.

Ha! You’re on!

You and me both. Does that mean we have to fight each other? Mashed potato with butter or gravy. I’m not fussy.

Devolution dividend: staff matter too. A huge contrast to DfE/Jacqui Smith approach in Tuesday's testimony. 3/3

Fantastic!! Totally deserved.

Due to inequalities in attainment in schools, it's very unlikely that high tariff institutions will be able to recruit all those low income students, at a time when the proportion eligible for free school meals is rising

So if low tariff universities are those that close, fewer FSM will attend HE
Chief exec of OfS 'said the OfS believes there are 24 institutions at risk of exiting the market in the next 12 months, seven of which are large providers with more than 3,000 students. There are another 25 or so institutions of various sizes at risk over a two- to three-year period, she added.'
Seven ‘large providers’ at risk of going under in the next year
Skills minister says no higher education institutions are at imminent risk of collapse this year but OfS confirms more than 20 providers are being closely monitored
