Cover of the book "A Hell of a Wedding" by David 29 Sunset. It depicts a lone palm bending in the wind on a white sand beach, with overcast skies in the distance.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Add another one to the "statcast puts a damper on how far I imagine a monster home run went" file.

My instinct alone had that one at like 480 feet.

Oh my god, Kyle Schwarber. He ties this game with a HUGE home run.

117.2 mph exit velocity. 455 feet.

Extremely happy because I just had a conversation with someone at work about the difference between "homing" and "honing", which then turned into a conversation about how "scanning" has come to mean what I understood "skimming" was.

Serious answer: Get in the best physical shape of your life. Embrace it. Love doing it. Do your best to maintain it. It'll get harder from here on out.

Related answer: Take up yoga. Invest in a studio membership. Make it a habit. Make friends who will go with you.

Good opportunity to announce I'm developing a podcast in which I interview people about kids movies. If that sounds like something you'd be interested in being interviewed about — whether you're prominent, "prominent", or a rando — shoot me a DM!

As someone who ran ubuntu on a VM just because, every caveat in this guide ("most") and explanation why you might not see certain posts thanks to admins' opaque actions is exactly what I'm talking about. Also, discovery is hard. On Mastodon, unless it's changed the past 2 years, it was a nightmare.

Could be misremembering, but I think I read at some point that a few people questioned why they had WWE stuff on ESPN at all, but that ultimately the execs determined it was a huge overlapping audience. So qualms about covering a theatrical event just like sports news programming went by the wayside

A thing about TS releasing a mid album as a followup to a genuinely boring album is that Lady Gaga released a mid album in March that has three songs that compare well to the best three songs on Life of a Showgirl and yet nobody I know cares because we've accepted that's where Gaga is these days.
