She had received a free annual transit pass through Medicare, but it wasn’t working and she was worried she wouldn’t be able to get on her next bus (I gave her $). She’s from Hawaii but got stuck in Portland, has an injured back, and is being left behind by broken systems. I hate this.

Thinking about the homeless woman on the bus today who was just riding the bus back and forth, carrying all her belongings with her, because she had no where to go until the shelter opened back up for dinner. Overnight only shelters don’t stabilize people.

It'd have some... slow segments, but it wouldn't cost hardly nothing to make Union-St Helens 110mph on the fairly straight ROW. Broaden a few curves and upgrade the grade crossings.
Fast and slow could average out to a decent medium.

the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable

I’m really nervous about the survey results saying to defund neighboring transit agency support. It’s going to hurt workers and disabled people so bad if they do that. Massively speaks to the need for a meaningful state transit department to coordinate this stuff instead of TriMet.

Trimet should have been sounding the alarm all during the spring leg session. Now riders are getting blindsided by the cuts and probably developing vulgar conspiratorial takes on Trimet funding.
