Let's simplify this. The Constitution is a contract. Citizens agree to a government only so long as it abides by the terms. Any govt that does not abide is illegitimate.

Strong chance they are trying to break the country into 'tech-bro' factions

The president says there are very few stores left in Portland, Oregon, and the ones that are left are made of plywood.

I know we’re numb to this, but in any other time he’d have been removed by the 25th Amendment by now

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

Somebody please get them to list the Western countries so I know whether democracy is a part of our heritage or not?

Probably not for nothing though. They're sending a message.

Qatar building a military base in Idaho seems like an issue that could get traction with Republicans. Called my electeds today to suggest they publicize it.

Blessed are the frogs, for they keep making authoritarians look incredibly stupid
Three persons in inflatable frog costumes. One of them is holding a nicely painted sign with two little cartoon frogs holding hands, below the text "FROGS TOGETHER STRONG"

I am old, tired and jaded. I gave up my place to those younger and better equipped, I told myself.

So why did I just buy an inflatable frog costume?

Looks to me like they're trying to balkanize the country.

BREAKING: ICE agents just abducted a press camera operator in Chicago.

WGN-TV’s Debbie Brockman was dragged to the ground, cuffed and bundled into a van - which then rammed her vehicle to escape.

What the hell is happening in America?

I started playing guitar literally a week ago, and the HARDEST PART is pacing myself so I learn one basic skill at a time (and don't turn my fingertips into mush in the process)! I want to play flamenco! I want to play blues! I want to play bluegrass! etc. etc. etc.

Couldn't believe my ears when that music AI guy said nobody actually enjoys making music. That ranks as one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Anybody who knows how to make music enjoys making music. Why would they have ever learned to do it if it didn't bring them joy?

Feels like too many of us are waiting around. We should probably be organizing.

I think this is all the result of everyone being conditioned to view everything as a vehicle for profit. They can’t imagine the reward of creation because in their minds any creative venture is measured by how much profit it yields, and is done solely for that reason. Capitalism is a neurotoxin.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE
