“Elon Musk admitted to his biographer that the reason the Hyperloop was announced—even though he had no intention of pursuing it—was to try to disrupt the California high-speed rail project to get in the way of that actually succeeding.” — @parismarx.com in @gizmodo.com

Silicon Valley's Push Into Transportation Has Been a Miserable Failure
The titans of tech brought plenty of disruption to our broken transportation system but delivered little in the way of innovation.

When I tell you white supremacy is built into every single aspect of American law and you cannot have a single effective movement without taking that into account, shit like “it’s illegal to poison a rich white neighborhood but legal to pollute a poor Black neighborhood” is what I mean.
Today I learned that when sugarcane farmers burn their fields, a “black snow” falls for months on communities downwind. Under FL law, burns are prohibited when the wind is blowing into wealthy, white neighborhoods. They’re only allowed when it’s blowing into poor, majority black areas.
Sugarcane burning is a plague on these Black Floridians

Any Democrat working against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, was never a Democrat in the first place. They are moderate Republicans who spent years seeking political power by posing as Democrats in a heavily blue area.

This times a thousand, and it's messed up how a political assassination just kind of fell out of the news right away.
A radical Christian just murdered the speaker of a state house but the real worry is the theocratic muslim who said the bus should be cheaper

Zohran Mamdani, who just bested Cuomo in mayoralty primary, wants to bring universal "school-streets" (school-proximate streets closed to cars + trucks) to #NYC.

That's made things a whole lot safer, and healthier, for kids in #Paris and #London, but until now, it's been a non-starter in the US.

Rents going down? “Don’t build apartments”
Hey folks, we built enough so that rents are coming down ever so slightly. It’s a slippery slope.
The best time to stop building was yesterday but the second best time is now.

One thing I’ve decided during this creative & inspiring week in Paris — it’s time to write my 1st book. On cities & better city-building obviously. Might be 2 books actually, since I don’t know which of my 2 ideas to do first.

Any advice from authors out there? Like should I get an agent or not?

the thing with Mamdani is that he’s obviously an incredible political talent - the campaign he’s run has been extremely impressive even if you don’t like his policies

the party should be delighted, and that they’re instead pulling out all the stops to beat him speaks volumes

Hot off the press! We found that electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) induces a previously undescribed, second brain event after seizure, called cortical spreading depolarization (CSD), using optical neuroimaging in both a mouse model to human patients. 🧵 below!
