The guy on my local news who covers the Luigi Mangione trial has the same eyebrows. I really want to ask the station if they gave him the assignment just for that

This shouldn't have to be said, but, please don't rely on AI to raise your children or be their teachers. Check in on them every couple of months while your phone's charging

A friend who's on the Academy board has been telling me for YEARS that they wanted the ABC deal to end, so they could go streaming.

All the awful changes that have been suggested over the years? That was ABC wanting the show to be shorter/higher rated/sell more ads. Streaming fixes all of that.

I got a little closer on a goal today. Just as I did yesterday. It's a long process, it only happens a bit at a time. Like bricks in a castle, brushstrokes in a painting.
To tweak Zeno, you can't do a big thing. You can only do a lot of small things in between. But keep it up.

TIL that over the last ten years the S&P 500 has more than tripled. I couldn't believe that, I had to check.
I wonder how much time in those ten years I wasted doomscrolling over, oh, this is so horrible and the market's never gonna recover. Or how much time I'll waste in future.

This lottery commercial fascinates me; I admire the notion that the lottery people really sat around and decided that this sort of situation comes up enough to make a spot about. I do like the actor’s innocent delivery of “but I bought it” though www.youtube.com/watch?v=ne2H...

A (quite) young movie lover said to me recently, "Not everybody can afford a DVD player," and I said "How much do you think a DVD player costs?"

He said, "I don't know, like $500?"

Those of us who advocate physical media are maybe not doing the best job of messaging.

One problem with inflation is that we forget how percentages work. When we were young we might remember things going up fifty cents, a dollar. Now twenty-thirty years later prices go up more than that, even if the *rate* of inflation is constant, and we get mad. Heck, I do too

Over the years I've become my building's "computer guy" to the older residents and the disappointment I feel in the air when I can't fix the computer is palpable. I never wanted to be the computer guy or claimed to know it all but it's like I've told them there's no Santa Claus. I'm just a guy 🤷

Had some Spinal Tap music on earlier, for obvious reasons, and of course what does this start and end with (and otherwise interpolate) but ... Carol of the Bells.

The secret of Carol of the Bells is that it sounds evil and scary. Yet of course I love it. Did those who brought it into the canon as a Christmas tune somehow foresee the need for dark malevolence for the season, or is it simply a "there can be no light without the darkness" situation? Discuss

Ha, I didn't know he did this. Well done.
One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.

I've never seen "North", but was reminded of the infamous Ebert review today after Rob Reiner's passing. If it is that bad, in a way, that's comforting. Anyone capable of helming a great movie can also make a bad one. No one bats 1.000 in art. You just gotta make something.

Look, I joshed his TDS as much as anyone, but when Rob Reiner was at his best his movies stood the test of time. Maybe he believed in his party so much that deep down he believed "The American President" was real, or could be; to me, it's pure fantasy, but we're all entitled. RIP.
