I agree with Camilla Tominey.

I know people like to complain about the Christmas pub goers, but I just popped to big Tesco & there were people acting like they'd never left the house before, let alone visited a supermarket.

Men staring in total bafflement at packs of onions, women standing still in the middle of crowded aisles.

Did you get that photo of the former VP?

Sure did boss. Real love child of Colin Mochrie and Quentin Tarantino vibes, just like you asked for...
I wonder if there are any biographies titled "Defeated"

As if this weren't impressive enough, he managed to get several of these jobs done despite having to work with me on them.

We're a long way from the anguished uncertainty of putting the El Cap solo on camera.

We used to be a country.
On this day (19th December) in 1983, the Scala Cinema was showing The Devils and Caligula as a double bill.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with the murder of a 9-year-old girl YESTERDAY!

What is she playing at?!
Dog-whistle and factually incorrect. Ladies, raise your hand if you were sexually assaulted by a boy at school? I’d wager this or a family member is most women’s first experience of sexual violence

The cat who stood guard outside our local Co-Op hoping for affection/tinned fish has moved and it's the most united I've ever seen the local Facebook group.

Visited a potential client recently and his artist wife pointed out the paintings she'd recently finished: "I hate this part. I hang then up around the house so I can look at where I went wrong."

The human condition may suck, but at least it's deeply, recognisably human.
One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

But the good news is, by doing this, we defeated racism in the UK.
Government has now - belatedly -published the impact assessment for the changes to skilled worker and care worker visas announced in May.

Impact is estimated between -£2 billion and £-10 billion (central - £10 billion).

Facebook can absolutely fuck off with this 'pay for verification' subscription crap.

I add value to your platform. I should not have to pay you for decent search and basic customer service.

What a heartening thought.
I'm sorry but a country where the legislature sells jerk seasoning as gift shop tat is not one where the engines of multiculturalism can be rolled back to 1948

Very impressed by the interviewer, Mark Stephen, here, who manages to walk the line of drawing out answers that are interesting to both an experienced and a general audience.

Helped, of course, by the fact that Guy Robertson speaks so eloquently about Scottish winter. Highly recommended listen.

The 2025 Alpine Journal is out now.

Alongside expedition reports from AC members, this year's edition has fabulous pieces on mountaineering greats like TG Longstaff and as an eye-opening account of how mountain plants make the weather.

This is wild.
I was really struck by this chart showing drop off in newspaper circulation just since 2019. Obviously no surprise it's happening but it's stark seeing it visually.

Just spotted that you can get a copy of Nicola Sturgeon's collected speeches for the same price signed and unsigned.

Really feel they should knock 50p off the signed copies just for the sake of the joke.

I've always loved '(Nothing but) Flowers', but watching this performance of it I found myself unexpectedly crying.

There's something so magical about live performance. It's not the best recording of the song, but there's just something in the emotion of the moment.
