should I start doing little video things talking about science or should I disconnect from the internet forever and melt down my phone and invest in fountain pens and fancy writing paper

mine: fixing home internet speeds
husband: cutting trees down
not just in art, either, there are guys who would go around obsessively fixing every clogged pipe in a 10-mile radius if they had the free time and social infrastructure to do so

I make more money than either of my parents ever did and it all goes to rent, healthcare, and debt
It's unquestionable that young people today are richer than their 1960s counterparts, but the big difference in precarity. A good job requires living in a metro area with a housing shortage. A child requires an even more expensive home in a functional school district. A college degree requires debt.
These Young Adults Make Good Money. But Life, They Say, Is Unaffordable.

This is a designer’s versions of disrespect. Saturated magenta over saturated blue (painful to look at) and colors with no contrast so it’s hard to read. “Brought to you by” is so small it’s illegible. And NO styling for the tagline???? They hated this project

Building up context and empathy when your job is solving problems is REQUIRED. So many AI-preaching Linkedinpilled techbros don’t understand that. They hire teams like mine because they don’t know how to build something that many people want to adopt and they’re desperate for a shortcut.
When I sit down to write I'm not consciously pulling from my notes, I'm drawing on the 6 months I spent reading biographies, watching hours of interviews, etc. There is a volume of research, of effort & time that is required to create something meaningful to draw from.

We need this period of discovery in order to design effectively and truly innovate beyond what exists today. This is precious time, even if you only have a couple of days for a small feature you still need to explore the solution space, as we’d say in Design. One of the best parts of the job!
Research is the MAGIC TIME on any project where I get to go have fun and explore. And 100% what you are looking for are the surprising and amazing details and textures that you could never make up
This is such a misunderstanding of why writers, artists, and designers do research to begin with, which is to find something unexpected, not capture the average or find reference for the default.

And, as always, the biggest misapprehension: We don’t want to NOT do this part. It’s fun to learn shit

I’ve had trans friends for many years and my own journey with gender has led me to land somewhere on the nonbinary spectrum. If you want to enforce rigid gender norms on yourself that’s fine, but leave the rest of us (and especially kids) out of it! We all deserve bodily autonomy, every one of us.

the graphics are the art and the gameplay is the marketing, and here we’ve been stuck for going on 40 years
graphics > gameplay is a plague on this world
Yup. I want shorter games and I don't care about complex textures where you can count their pores. I want tiny dudes where I can count their pixels.

James Talarico: These predatory social media algorithms elevate the most extreme voices to provoke our outrage.

Billionaires are engineering our emotions so they can profit off of our pain.

These platforms want us at each other's throats because those billionaires benefit.

People who argue "who cares it's just for kids" all I can say is fuck right off. Kids deserve thoughtful, well-made movies that challenge them just as much as adults do. Kids aren't stupid, and they remember how movies affect them basically forever.

Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
