For your general consideration....we published eight novellas this year. Three issues of Baffling. And a short story collection by Christopher Caldwell.

(Plus we are sneaking out AT LEAST two more anthologies, an issue of Baffling, and a chapbook by Izzy Wasserstein before the end of the year.)

Labour are just completely committed to this, they are simply all in on becoming repulsive racists on the grounds of some admixture of sincere belief and that Reform would be worse (the latter of which I guess is true, but is true in part because they are shifting the permissibility window outward).

this sounds like a joke but it's really not.

'gender critical' is a tiny movement but the ppl involved are all in powerful positions and have megaphones.
There are only about 30 TERFs in Britain, but most of them have newspaper columns.

It's all very well talking about Farage being a racist at school. But he is racist today and that matters more. Reform is, day by day, calling for non-white people to be barred from public life, 'sent back home', accusing us all of being scum and criminals and more.

Focus on today's bullshit.

I, Rhiannon Grist, am not your boss. I am incapable of making you fill out your timesheet, answer your emails, or preorder my cottagegore horror HOME SICK coming out with @solarisbooks.bsky.social in 2026.

So only do it if you want to. Preorder, I mean.

You should probably do your timesheets.

Just ten books I feel bad for not having read yet? Only ten?
It's the time of year where Tiktok starts on "ten before the end". I don't think lists like that actually do much for making me read things, but I like making lists so here's my attempt at the ten books I'd like to get to before the end of the year.

The metric is "feel v bad I've not read it yet".

THIIS is so relevant to all conversations about "where genre is going" or "are romantasies taking over" or "why don't I recognise any of the goodreads choice nominees". SFF has always contained multitudes and honestly if you're friends with me, you've probably always been on the niche side as well.
I mean we have had multiple "core" audiences for a while. There's WorldCon fandom who will think of themselves as "the" SFF fandom, the r/fantasy bros people like to mock are ultimately a core audience who are having a great time with the books they like. And now Romantasy/booktok as well

Palate cleansing after yesterday's reading with IN THE HEART OF HIDDEN THINGS by Kit Whitfield. I read the second book in this series first so I know what I'm in for: brilliant small scale fantasy with meaningful stakes and excellent, (mostly) lovely characters (mostly) doing their best.

Wow I have not even clicked through to see who this is, but "we invented the idea of a romance series" is the boldest claim I've seen since that time someone claimed a book had invented oral sex in romance. 😂
I’ll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to “fix” it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that?? www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/b...

Subtweeting the obvious book: it's a real capital-C Choice to write a hell/afterlife book full of academic digressions but with no apparent interest in theological implications?

Maybe it comes up more seriously in the last 150 pages but the library book is due today and I'm losing the will to live
