Is it just me or have domain names just generally gotten a lot more expensive lately?

(Maybe this is the universe telling me not to buy another one)

as I've said, LLM advocates have an extremely narrow idea of what a person is, and that is why they think an LLM could be one
shrikant.bsky.social
That's a very dismissive construct of LLMs, IMHO. Yes they are stochastic and yes they are 'robotic' but here's a sentence for you to ponder:

Humans are just advanced language output algorithms that spit out returns based on input and their reference library.

The idea that you’ll make people want to have “no Caesars” by _acting like one_ is stupid on its face, made worse by the fact that *the alternative to take your ball & go home does not exist* for all practical purposes for an average Bluesky user.

(bluesky user bursts into Waffle House) OH SO YOU HATE PANCAKES??

Always hated that illustration. It implies the right way to do things is to build something no one wants, then tear down your entire manufacturing process so you can build another unrelated thing, and still no one wants it. Repeat ad nauseam.

I’ve tried different tools (git, rcm, chezmoi) but the one I keep coming back to is home-manager and nix-darwin. The new flakes-based configuration system makes this much smoother.

Anyone tried integrating Apple’s Foundation Models with Hotwire Native? Particularly interested in the speech-to-text model, and the async transcription utility. I assume it covered in @joemasilotti.com’s book, but should be possible?

I agree and even more so: what if the problem is us, the Ruby community, not contributing to our key nonprofit enough? We did not have ownership because we didn’t show up, and RC ended up being squeezed by a big donor because they did not have enough sponsors, stability and support.

RE: Ruby Central funding, and a consolidation of power with companies like Shopify.

For years now the lead funder of Ruby and Rails initiatives has been Shopify, full stop. They've contributed heavily in both time and money, and through that have left a substantial impact on Ruby and Rails.

100% Funding is a big problem, but we are also part of that problem if we are not paying.

everything else aside for a moment, it is deeply concerning that ruby central has painted itself into a corner where it's entirely dependent on one company that has dhh on its board
