A reminder that before France & the US overthrew Aristede in 2004 they called him & his circle drug traffickers too. Their real reason: stopping Aristede from pressing a case for reparations, not only for slavery but for the Indemnity (debt France made Haiti pay for *depriving slaveholders* of $)

Disappointing to here Joe Tess rattling off anti-G5 talking points from the booth here. This game has sucked and the JMU-Oregon game will be a slaughter, but the point is the rest of the season. You either drastically trim whose season "matters" or you acknowledge the Playoff is a source of meaning

If a stranger told you they were raising their newborn on advice from the chat robot you'd rightfully contact child services
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

All day, many of you have been asking for a Cheney obituary from me. Get ready:
His Works Completed, Dick Cheney, Mass Murderer of Iraqis and American Democracy, Dies
As much as the Trumpists claim to disavow the War on Terror, they walk a path paved by the most powerful vice president in U.S. history.

the unspoken assumption in this post is that the justices are not political actors and arrived at the immunity decision purely out of jurisprudential reasoning or idealogical lean and had nothing to do with trump being the standard bearer for their party in an election that was months away
Any DOJ/Garland counterfactual also has to reckon with the immunity ruling last year. It doesn’t really matter when or how the cases were brought if that was always going to be the endpoint.
as tempting as it is to blame this on garland personally, I think a lot of it was an ingrained, institutionally cautious culure at doj. it was (before january 2025) a building full of careful, by-the-book people

"the FBI director used taxpayer funds in a government shutdown to fly his country singer GF to sing at a Hulk Hogan-founded wrestling event aired on Fox Nation" is not the flashiest Trump-era headline but pound for pound it can compete with any contender
Patel's girlfriend performed at Penn State last weekend. A government jet arrived at State College Regional Airport, according to its FAA registration, with an address listing the FBI HQ. The plane then flew to Nashville, where his girlfriend lives.

All on the taxpayer’s dime.

POTUS has made no secret of his desire for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Some enterprising journalist should ask the President on camera how he squares that desire with his recent "determination" that the US is somehow in an armed conflict with a bunch of unspecified "designated terrorist organizations."
