Fake prophecies, a shiny new sword, & a branded birthmark are guiding Raul's fate. But who chooses the chosen one? And what can you do when your destiny is a lie? A story about deception, family, rebellion, and choosing your own path.

The cover of the novel Forged for Destiny by Andrew Knighton, featuring a sword and a crescent moon in a ring against a background of flames. Next to is are two quotes from reviews:

“Offers an inventive take on the classic chosen-one trope while weaving in themes of loyalty, loss, and the rebellious power of books and knowledge. Perfect for fans of Raymond E. Feist.” – Library Journal

“Knighton turns the usual archetypes of high fantasy on their heads, questioning the very definition of heroism and villainy in a thrilling novel about a young man’s growing understanding of political and moral complexity.” – Dainy Bernstein, Shelf Awareness

Sounds brilliant. Looking forward to it already.

Do you need an audiobook to listen to? A good one, that you'll enjoy? Because I have just the thing - I know it's good because I wrote and produced it and I have listened to it so many times by this point but I still like it: www.audible.co.uk/pd/The-Redst...

Dan Mackmain's physically fit and mentally tough. That means nothing in this situation. Want to find out what happens next?
The Green Man's War is a 99p Kindle UK deal for October.
www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Mans-W...
Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a lethal, pale-scaled serpent-dragon or wyrm lurking in woodland. It looks straight at you as its forked tongue flickers between open, sharp-toothed jaws.

Book extract reads: The man by the door with the mattock said something I didn’t catch, but he was obviously warning the others. Sledgehammer guy looked around again. His mate with the pickaxe took a couple of steps towards a jewellery seller at the other end of the barn. She was tiny, wearing a long black dress, with purple hair that matched her lipstick and eyeshadow. If she was next on their list, there was nothing I could do.
I’d have to take that sledgehammer off the short-arse in front of me, then get past his mate with the mattock. No chance. My mother’s a dryad, but that doesn’t give me superpowers, not really. A dryad’s daughters take after their mothers and live for centuries in the unseen world alongside normal life. I’m tall and strong and hardly ever get ill, but I’ll grow old like my dad.
Billhook guy called out. I realised I hadn’t misheard mattock man guarding the door. Whoever these thieves were, they weren’t speaking English between themselves

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Once again I've followed your lead, and am enjoying some JuJu while cooking pancakes for a late breakfast. Can't believe I haven't listened to this before, it's fantastic.

Counter-opinion: it’s a f***ing tragedy that corporate greed has broken the medium which facilitated Tahrir Square etc and is now doing its best to break the rest of the Internet.

Opinion: It would be a hugely welcome development to discover that we have not merely reached social media saturation point, but that the experience has been degraded to such an extent that it has shocked people out of their stupor. on.ft.com/476Dcr8

So for this year's somewhat abbreviated Oktobersketch I'm experimenting with group scenes, one per week. Here are some stalwart defenders of some small European nation circa 1800(?). Group first then the individual originals.
a group of uniformed animals with muskets, wearing red and blue uniforms including tasselled caps and old fashioned long coats, rallying around a flag. A uniformed mantis with a sabre and a flag. A uniformed hamster loading a musket A uniformed giant anteater aiming a musket.
