Gotta say--dressing up in costumes is the kind of creatively brilliant resistance we all need. It brings joy and humor to things while vividly painting the authoritarian as foolish and absurd. Hats off Portlanders! @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org I think this counts as the sprite of mischief.

Today marks the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attack.

As we mourn the 1,218 lives lost that day, let us also keep alive the dream of a lasting peace and a better future for all.

Ceasefire now. Every hostage must come home. And a safer world for everyone.

I'm still sad she never followed me on here like she did on the hellscape.

There are about 190,000 jobs in mining in the US. That’s about the same as the renewable energy jobs in the state of Florida alone.

Watching alleged ICE agents break into people's home while declaring they don't need warrants definitely makes me feel safe.

The very first statute authorizing domestic use of the military during domestic emergencies, enacted in 1792 by a Congress full of the same folks who wrote and ratified the Constitution, expressly provided for judicial review in certain circumstances *before* the President could even send troops.

Two things felt different to the ppl I spoke with who’d been protesting at the ICE building for months.

1st was the sheer volume of tear gas, pepper balls and flash-bangs used, seemingly unprovoked.

2nd was seeing so many videographers/live-streamers embedded with the feds as they marched out.

Hours after a federal judge paused the Trump administration’s plans to deploy 200 members of the Oregon National Guard to Portland, federal law enforcement officers escalated the tactics used on protesters in the city.

My almost 2-year-old daughter is obsessed with my pocket Declaration of Independence and Constitution... tonight in reading it to her I realized we all really should read it again... right now.

Jane Goodall was not only a pioneering primatologist, she also campaigned more relentlessly and selflessly for the natural world than anyone I know.

The world has lost an extraordinary scientist, advocate, and teacher. But her legacy lives on in every person she inspired to care about our planet and its inhabitants.

Rest in peace, Dr. Goodall. And thank you.

Through Ocean Science Radio and my work in conservation communications, I've tried to follow her example: translate complex science into stories that inspire action, never stop learning, and believe that individual commitment can drive collective change.

She spent her final decades traveling constantly, advocating tirelessly for conservation and inspiring people worldwide to take action. Even in her 90s, she never stopped working for the planet and the creatures she loved.

Dr. Goodall showed us that chimpanzees make tools, feel emotions, and wage war - forcing us to redefine what it means to be human. More importantly, she showed us that one person's dedication and empathy can change how an entire species is understood and protected.
akornblatt.bsky.social
My two-year-old daughter is already obsessed with her children's book about Jane and the chimpanzees. She doesn't understand yet that the woman in those pages changed how we see ourselves and our place in the natural world. But she will.

She made you feel like your work mattered, no matter how small your contribution to conservation might seem compared to her decades of groundbreaking research.
