Trying to build animatronic butterfly jewelry. Somewhat succeeding
Testing my flapping mechanism. While the other stuff connected to the #butterfly looks a bit messy, I'm sure I'll be able to shrink it down to a very small circuit board soon

Interested in long-context embeddings, but not sure how well they compare with chunking? Check out this post from myself and @michael-g-u.bsky.social to find the optimal strategy. Click through for lots of nice graphs!
One year ago, we released the first OS embedding model for 8192 tokens. Many suspected it to be not useful and chunking to be better than a single vector. I run many experiments to explain, when to use what and we summarized the findings in this article

Had a lot of fun recording this one with @nicolay.fyi. All things considered, in the time between recording it and now I haven't seen many left-field developments that have changed my mind about evals in RAG.

Since I keep seeing this pop up, I wanted to post a friendly reminder that there are currently no official #NASA accounts on Bluesky.

If/when any official NASA accounts do join this platform, they will be listed here, where you can find a list of all NASA’s official social media accounts:

look I dunno if you hate being on X because all the interactions are awful I think it’s fine to not be there; I don’t think we all need to volunteer to get ripped apart by lions because it’s the only way the coliseum audience can be reached

I'm trying to dig up what the rough average length of a word is in English. All the results say it's around 4.7 letters, but I can't find any serious citations. Anyone in #linguistics got anything?

The more I get into logging plants for #citizenscience, the more some of the names annoy me.

Like "Lime tree" - it doesn't produce limes! Just another name for Linden tree.

And "Plantain" isn't the fruit, but a sidewalk weed!

Anyone know any other silly plant double-namage like this?

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

Everyone rightfully excited about the #Elephant "name" news, but the elephant news that really got me this week was over at Sheldrick. Recent orphan Toto was brought to them by PREVIOUSLY RESCUED ELEPHANTS who found him and knew just where to take him. ❤️ www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/toto
Toto
With half a century of elephant conservation to our name, it can sometimes feel like we have seen it all. But even among the hundreds of orphan rescues that have unfolded over the years, Toto’s story ...
