This is one of my favourite Lingthusiasm episode genres: Find one topic that lets us traipse through a whole heap of different subfields of linguistics.

The nose takes us through etymology, phonetics, sign phonology, idioms and gesture. It's a very fun episode.

So many informal #DEAP assessments.. so many blank expressions when I show them the first picture from the #speech screen (you might know the one). So...I've decided to improvise.. Do you think the kiddoes'll know what this is a pic of instead?? 🤔

Had a lad in for assessment. He was not in the mood for the #CELF so I opted for Plan B of informal #minecraft themed battery of subtests instead. He was delighted (and I was relieved! 😅). #pearson if you're in the market for a special edition assessment (like Monopoly?) I'm there for you! 😆

Older Children’s Speech Errors (4)
I am continuing my series of blog posts about older children’s speech errors, in particular, mispronunciation of long or complex words. I am speculating about the possible cause of speech errors produced by older children. On March 10, 2025, I started a series on older children’s speech errors, indicating that there are 5 possible areas of speech processing to consider: auditory processing; phonological processing; phonological planning; motor planning, articulation.

🤔Would love some insights from those wiser than I here:
How can I best support families who are/have been experiencing loss of comm skills in their little ones?
