"The Daily Nebraskan found in the leaked spreadsheet that every program eliminated appeared to be profitable...every program that the chancellor proposed eliminating generated more money from tuition dollars than the department costs to run."
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

I once spoke during the open comment portion of a school board meeting and within a day three people had asked me to run in the next election.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

The damage is not just limited to Americans.

The CDC is the world's leading institution for disease prevention, control, and health guidance research.

It is a devastating world-wide loss.

Y'all, I just wrote an answer to a question about the sensationalized news headlines circulating about the Chernobyl containment structure.

The bottom line is that there's a hole in the structure, which is not good, but it's not the end of containment, which some reports make it sound like.

🧵
The way this is being reported is extremely irresponsible.

There is a hole in the containment structure, about 10 feet across. No other damage is reported. That hole can allow some of the dusty radioactive material to escape.

That is what "can no longer do its job of containment" means.

I think this is the point most missed. Right now I am a citizen by the constitution. To strip me of it requires an amendment, or SCOTUS making up bullshit; only the latter is possible.

If my citizenship isn't from the constitution, then I am a citizen at the whim of Congress, which will be stacked.
