Where food studies meets medieval history!
Very happy to have contributed this piece to @theconversation.com It takes a speculative look at what the saint may have eaten based on evidence from early + later medieval sources. And no it's not corned beef and cabbage but as it's food, it's always complicated

"The language that is being used has a specific resonance, which, historically, has been used to change regime type. It is important that the rights of human beings were violated. It is important that the rule of law was ignored. It is important that the executive is trying to define reality."
Language used by individuals associated with the federal government who deported people without trial or due process to a concentration camp in El Salvador, defying a court order, has a specific resonance that, historically, has been used to change regime type.

Thanks to @annairosenberg.bsky.social for so beautifully encapsulating MY ROMAN HISTORY ✨
First book of 2025 – a love letter to Rome. @alizah-holstein.bsky.social beautifully threads her story with the city’s layers of history, creating a vivid patchwork of narratives. It is a wonderful journey through a woman’s self discovery led by Dante, Rome, the poetic and the divine. #booksky💙📚

R. Mesch offers an important dimension to the difficult discussion re: abuse in #HigherEd mentoring. I struggled greatly when writing about graduate school in My Roman History, so I know how scary it is to write publicly. It can feel like a betrayal, but the questions Mesch poses are critical.
I wrote a piece about a certain flavor of academic abuse. I have carried parts of this story for upwards of 25 yrs, & I’m grateful to @chronicle.com for helping me to tell it.

This course will be AI generated.

The more interesting point I will point out is that Prof. Stahujak is basically saying that the content of the course - literature - is ancillary to writing exercises, so I guess we're all doomed. #medievalsky
Comparative lit class will be first in Humanities Division to use UCLA-developed AI system
The textbook for Zrinka Stahuljak’s winter 2025 course is generated by the Kudu platform.
