Last night I had a dream where @mitpress.bsky.social published all of my Advent of Code solutions in hardcover. There was a book release party. I cried.

I’m also enjoying the combination of uv and scikit-build-core. They work without much fuss. That said, I’d love to know whether it’s possible to use CLion and PyCharm together on a single uv project that uses scikit-build-core. scikit-build-core.readthedocs.io

I like Airspeed Velocity (ASV). It’s far from perfect, but no benchmarking package will satisfy everyone. It just works without much fuss. asv.readthedocs.io

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

I expect we’ll see more and more of this. I really tried my best to be positive about AI and LLMs the past year but the situation keeps getting worse. Way too much of my life is now spent reviewing AI slop. The impact on open source is dire. ziglang.org/news/migrati...

Awful news that Kaleb Horton died. A talented writer who in another time would've been getting $5 a word with an expense account. Read his skilled filleting of the Entourage movie web.archive.org/web/20150605...

Back when Tom was CEO of GitHub, I pitched a compiler front-end framework for common programming languages that would output uniform representations—token streams, concrete syntax trees, abstract syntax trees, typed trees, even elaborated trees.

Remember how music used to be?. It was E A D and the occasional bar chord and songs about nice girls being nice, but now it is plonk, control voltage, LED helmets, and intestinal-distress-inducing subs.

Guys are fundamentally incompatible with Hustle Culture because it’s not about “winning” a deal, it’s about collecting favors and goodwill in a mutually-beneficial cycle. protect your local Guy Economy
