Writer, aesthete, reprobate.

Writes as A W Earl (and, previously, Alys Earl) but you can call me Fred.

Has sword, will travel. They/them.
Also, while I was poking about the internet about these books, I read part of an ancient review that described the murder mystery as the most conservative of genres, and it’s been troubling me.

Because there *is* something innately conservative about the genre, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

More on this - in both cases the victim is killed on their work premises, with an unrelated object from those premises placed upon them to make a point about their death/character in a way that may or may not be done by the murderer.
I mean, there are so many echoes between them that I always had them muddled in my head? Thought the company launch and the Thames tunnel were in A Certain Justice, and the fertility clinic was in Original Sin.

It’s weird having moderately bad pain, and fatigue with no brain fog. It’s like, I can think perfectly clearly. I just… can’t really move and everything is sore.

One of the… best? worst??… one of the THINGS about having cats is that sometimes you are a fellow and participant in their space and sometimes you are merely part of the landscape.

School: We’re migrating to a new contact platform, which will be able to do EVERYTHING the old platforms could do in one simple place! We will no longer be using any of the other platforms!
Me: *tried to send an absence notif*
New platform: Nope.

Think I’ve recently, and quite by accident, read three almost consecutive P D Jameses, and my god, that A Taste for Death through to A Certain Justice arc is *dark*, and working through a very definite set of concerns.

Y’know, I think I’m going to start grading painfully bad literary criticism on the internet. Not to the writer, or even publicly - that would both be mean, and open me up to similar attacks, as I too, have dreck ok the internet - but to myself, quietly: “I’d give it a low 2:2.”

One of my favourite kind of gate post finials - an arrowhead cap carefully half-painted for the house on one side only. Is this a very British approach? Slightly passive-aggressive vibes, but I always admire the crisp neatness of such a division.

I heard there was a Cohen song,

And all the Christians got it wrong,

But you don’t really get the meaning do ya?

‘Cause you see its about getting laid,

It’s sex, and love, and Jewish faith,

But all the gentiles heard was “hallelujah!”

While I *do* advise, if you need to use a cane, getting a ‘dress’ one that you like having with you out and about, it *will* attract a lot of compliments which can be a bit awkward.

Like, yes, thanks, I need it to walk long distances…

Realising one reason I’ve not managed to sell my second novel is because I’ve written a fantasy novel with twinky nonsense of a MMC who everyone instantly likes, but the *real* protagonist is a woman who is cold, and difficult, and morally compromised and I’ll give no damn ground on that.

Trans people have exhaustively detailed the links between the anti-trans and anti-abortion movements, we warned that transphobia was a wedge issue for the religious right to roll back women's rights, only for us to be ignored, and of course UK TERFs are setting their sights on abortion.
Kathleen Stock has written an article against "abortion permissiveness". She claims abortion requires "justification" saying the state should limit "unacceptable decision-making" by women about their own bodies.

This is who anti-trans activists proclaim as the feminist thought leaders of our time.
