its kind of funny that ai causes individuals to experience psychosis but has also has caused an industrial psychosis where instead of labor and material capitalists just throw all their money into a hole marked "delusion"

I have horrible social anxiety, but this is so important. I called Senator Schumer and both my senators. Everyone needs to call! Do not let them cave!
threnody.bsky.social
so: what do we need you to do? two things.

1.call your D/I senators. find contact info here: reps.fyi

what do we need you to say? try the call script below. adapt it; make it your own! there are bailout points written in, in case you get nervous. but please *call.* 🧵
Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm one of Senator [THEIR NAME]'s constituents. House Republicans are trying to insert a multiple articles of anti-trans legislation, including a full transgender healthcare funding ban, into the F-Y '26 budget. I'm calling to tell the Senator to stand up for trans Americans and vote NO on any bill with that language. This IS worth forcing a shutdown.

[you can stop here at 0:20 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

This care funding ban follows the map the G-O-P charted while attacking abortion. Democrats lost that fight by giving in to the G-O-P an inch at a time. Giving an inch at a time on trans care will devastate trans Americans and it'll get Democrats nothing in return but contempt.

[you can stop here at 0:40 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

Right now, the most popular Democrat in the U-S, [Zo-RAHN Mom-DA-nee], is campaigning on making trans healthcare cheaper and easier to access, and he's only got more good will because of it.

[you can stop here at 0:50 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

I'm asking the Senator to refuse to allow any anti-trans language including a healthcare ban in the F-Y '26 bill. Do not vote for any bill with that language. This IS worth forcing a shutdown. Standing with trans people is the right thing to do and it's politically smart. Voters and donors show up for Democrats who fight.

I'm happy to see Thomas relaunching his newsletter (not on substack!) and I just subscribed. I find his writing to be the best about the current state of America, and encourage folk to read it!

Been saying this since forever.
Everything that happens in “taboo erotic books” is in fact the SAFEST version of a bdsm fantasy because no human is involved. The barn is not happening between characters. It’s them who allow the READER to live their bdsm fantasy through them.
And yes, even

I feel similar. Like, I liked it but I kind of hated that I liked it and I mostly just wanted to have like a 3 hour discussion about it

A tutorial on how to use the “notify me” tag to request that your library add a title. Here’s me requesting an audiobook by @charliejane.bsky.social:

1) Use “deep search” at the bottom of the author’s page

2) Click “notify me”

3) Click through info page

4) The bell icon means you did it right!
Libby screenshot at the bottom of an authors catalogue reads, “deep search

Deep searching is available for this list.
It looks for titles that your library doesn't have.” Screenshot of Charlie Jane Anders’s audiobook, “Lessons in Magic and Disaster” which shows the “Notify me” tag next to the preview of the book cover.

Book cover is purple with yellow text. Below, a book summary begins, “In the vein of Alice Hoffman and Charlie Jane Anders's own All the Birds in the Sky comes a multicast audiobook full of love, disaster, and...” After clicking “notify me” the Libby app reads:

This title is not in your library's catalog.
Tag it to receive a notification if the library acquires copies.

Tagging a title with Notify Me doesn't guarantee that a library will acquire it, but Libby shares your interest (anonymously) with your libraries. If they add the title to the collection, we'll let you know right away. Screenshot of Charlie Jane Anders’s audiobook, “Lessons in Magic and Disaster” which shows the “Notify me” tag next to the preview of the book cover but now also shows a bell icon, highlighted pale yellow, which means I’ve successfully requested the title and will be notified if my library gets it.

Everything is really scary and chaotic for Trans individuals right now. Regardless of whatever lies and fear that is spread, we know that the world is better with Trans people in it. You are all worth fighting for, and we will continue to advocate for your rights and your safety.

Whether or not you support political violence won’t change where we’ve come to, nor where we’ve been for some time in this country. I am quite taken aback by how many people only invoke the term ‘political violence’ when it happens to a person with power. It’s political violence the other way too.

I really loved this book. It's such a sweet reframing of one of the villains in P&P, and it works so well.

Every person who says "of course there are some uses for LLMs" should be forced to immediately list what those uses are, taking into account that:

a) they cannot be accurate and there is no way to make them accurate

b) they have been repeatedly shown to make users dumber and worse at their jobs

SO THE REAL TAKEAWAY FROM THIS SHOULD BE: if you want a million more undertales and stardew valley and indie gems that connect with you on an emotional level you never thought possible, pass Universal Basic Income and Health Care and give away arts grants for games like they're candy.

I don't know if it's related to gender or just random, but my husband and I each have this shirt. He has folks compliment it every time he wears his. I have never had any comment on mine. It's weird!

I started tracking my written word counts on Trackbear exactly a year ago, shortly after I started writing. In that year, I've written more than 215k words. Hoping to do even more this coming year!

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.
AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

I took a 3-4 week break from writing for a variety of reasons, and started again a couple days ago with a new project. The first day was a bit of a struggle, but now I'm back in it and all I want to do is write!
ameliagm.bsky.social
Also, and this is the thing that AI bros will never understand, I am energized by writing. I do not need the writing to be faster, because the writing is the point.

No, authors aren't burnt out because "writing without AI is slow"

We're burnt out because we're paid dirt so we need day jobs to survive
