I'm probably going to be thinking about this passage from Claire Keegan's Small Things Like These a lot in the next few years.
"[H]e found himself asking was there any point in being alive without helping one another? Was it possible to carry on along through all the years, the decades, through an entire life, without once being brave enough to go against what was there..."
Just noticed that Angelika pushed its release of Is This Thing On back to January, so there goes my Christmas plans unless I want to drive all the way to the Avalon.

Woke up with a revelation: Andrew Scott and Josh Brolin should've switched roles in Wake Up Dead Man. It wouldn't solve all my issues with the movie, but at least those characters would've made sense.

The screenwriters' are also front and center. I'm definitely intrigued! Anyone know who designed it?
no idea if this will be a good movie or not, I’m just ecstatic to see a poster like this for an upcoming movie — peak of the artform, IMO

Looking through this. The question is whether I should buy Hotel Berlin now or wait to see if it gets an upgrade/restoration (assuming this would be the same watchable but fuzzy version I watched on TCM).
A heads-up to my physical media brothers and sisters -- especially if you're concerned about access to the WB catalogue in light of recent events -- Movie Zyng is doing a big Warner Archive year-end Buy 3, Get 30% off sale (plus free shipping over $70) with the code WARNER2025. Linky:

“Telling the truth is a belly rub.” Netflix spent upwards of $200 million on Wake Up Dead Man but won’t pay for a human to provide or check (or both) subtitles that don’t turn the script into nonsense.
Okay... whoever did the subtitles for WAKE UP DEAD MAN needs a slap on the wrist. You made me feel temporarily insane tonight. I saw the film at the premiere a few weeks ago, and there's an ISHTAR reference that made me cackle. (1/?)

I would be more interested in Wake Up, Dead Man if it wasn't "a Benoit Blanc movie." Sorry, that character can only work once.

I was about to post that Ellen Burstyn should've won an Emmy for Political Animals, but a Wikipedia check tells me she did win! Enjoying the show, even if the layout of "D.C." in the pilot gave me a good laugh.

To sum up:
1. This will not "save" WB as a theatrical entity.
2. This would amount to handing over two studios to a right-wing tech billionaire.
3. The argument that this won't monopolize market share is true only bc Paramount does so badly it has no market share! www.nytimes.com/2025/12/08/b...

If this goes thru it will accelerate Hollywood’s precipitous decline. Thousands laid off. Creatives w/fewer studios willing to bid on projects. Fewer choices of what to watch for consumers. Possibly a death blow for theatrical filmgoing. Just terrible news all around

also just on a personal note having worked at both WB and Netflix, I have no faith in either company and anything leadership says about a love of movies is a big fat lie. TCM (where I also once worked) leadership does their best to navigate bomb filled waters every day.
