According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.

When I explain to healthy people what MECFS is and all my limitations now, then follow up with, "...and I am classified as 'mild' right now" it really shocks them.

Usually this is in response to asking me why I wear a mask.
People really don’t know how shitty the quality of life is with #MECFS

Horrible at every stage. “Mild” is anything but with some criteria saying you have a 50% drop in activity.

And the floor keeps dropping out from there.

25% are severe.

I repeat: 1 in 22 Covid infections triggers ME.

“AI” isn’t a tool or technology or even a cluster of technologies with a misleading name. It’s the infrastructure at the foundation of a form of capitalism dependent on data brokering. We should be teaching our students about this and not teaching them about “responsible” use.

Of all the scammy, weird things the Josh Kraft campaign has done this feels uniquely bad and actually illegal.

The FTC requires that sponsored posts be labeled #ad or #sponsored. For months, Kraft paid Boston influencers thousands of dollars for Instagram posts with no disclosure. #mapoli #bospoli

Such a great essay on the power of naming invisible lived experiences in chronic illness!
If you have a complex chronic illness, you're probably familiar with the experience of a doctor telling you that your test results are normal, while your body feels like it's full of noodles and static electricity. As a linguist, M Corvi is looking for words to measure sickness. bit.ly/45a6lj2

You have to understand how egregious this is. Professors who go up for tenure and don’t get tenure are fired. But in addition, the boards job has always been to rubber stamp the decisions made by people who are actually qualified. What does a banking exec know about your portfolio that profs don’t?
Something's up (down?) at #UNC.

The Bd of Trustees, which has authority over tenure decisions, tabled all at its March mtg & re-tabled all from the College of Arts & Sciences & the non-health professional schools (Law, Biz, etc) at its next mtg. All w/o explanation.

For a board of trustees to shut down their approval of promotion and tenure decisions is beyond the pale, and should be questioned and contested through every means available. Shutting down process precedes shutting down...other things.

It's a job loss penalty, if you lose your job, you lose your food assistance. Calling it a work requirement helps MAGA destroy SNAP.
The Ag Committee's part of the Reconciliation Bill raises the SNAP work requirement age for able-bodied adults without dependents from 54 to 64. It also changes the definition of "dependent child" from under 18 years to under 7 years old to determine "Able-bodied adult without dependents."

It’s not often a thread will make you see things differently, but this is one such thread. I learned some things. It’s long, and I’ll probably even reread it.
Pope Leo's first sermon and, uh, his using the phrase "be ever more fully a city set upon a hill" and cf'ing it to Rev 21:10 instead of any of the others before saying "many baptized Christians" are "living in a state of practical atheism" is. Well. Shots fired!

Read Pope Leo XIV's first homily as pope
During his homily, delivered in Italian, Leo XIV said that Christians must serve a world that is often hostile to their beliefs.

One of the real difficulties with addressing trauma from societal abandonment during the pandemic is that many people coped with their own abandonment by abandoning others.
