It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

They're investigating the victim's wife, the victim's friends, the mayor and the governor too, but no, they're not even going to glance in the direction of the murderer.
BREAM: Is the FBI investigating the ICE agent who shot Renee Good?

BLANCHE: What happened has been reviewed by millions of Americans bc it was recorded. We investigate when it's appropriate. That is not the case here. We are not going to bow to pressure. So no, we are not investigating.

When I lecture to students about how the apparently thriving economy of the 1920s was really a house of cards just waiting to be knocked down, one of the points I stress is how much a small number of the very rich were essentially propping up consumer spending in unsustainable ways
The top 10% now account for nearly half of all consumer spending.

Underrated discussion point on this: Trump is literally using the National Treasure (2004) defense: they were gonna steal it, that’s why I have to.
Guys, that movie is not a documentary

Are there Fourth Amendment limits—and if so, what are they—on taking a person's picture and uploading it to a facial recognition database during a Terry stop for immigration violations?

No cases on this. And without a Bivens remedy, I'm not sure there will ever be any cases on this.

lots of political space to convert those “not sures” into somewhat supports and those “somewhat supports” into strongly supports on eliminating ICE. also, with a funding battle coming up, plenty of political space to say “no government funding unless we claw back last year’s new ICE funding”
This YouGov poll on ICE is really eye-opening. Public opinion has really swung against DHS/ICE and their terror regime.

Many are arguing that they wouldn't be acting this way if they thought they were subject to free & fair elections.

Plausible. But another explanation is that they see the writing on the wall--generational backlash--and they're attempting increasingly desparate hail marys

“Treacherous Canadian” needs to be a thing now
The Atlantic suggesting, without evidence, that Canada's Global TV broadcasting the '60 Minutes' segment on CECOT that CBS distributed to it may have been an act of "treachery."

Simply amazing that the Supreme Court declared an end to legal race discrimination in the affirmative action case two years ago and now allows overt racism in both immigration arrests and redistricting.

Using race to help minorities? Bad. Using it to discriminate against them? Very, very good.

This is one of many decisions that only makes sense if you see the court as a political body, where six Republicans are willing to overturn a well reasoned District Court opinion with a 2.5 page opinion, with the likely and intended effect being to determine that Republicans hold Congress

We have to have a conversation not only about how racist and undemocratic the electoral college is but also that it clearly depresses turnout. How can we analyze what voter demographic stats mean in safe red or blue states?

either people specify what they mean when they say “elite” or the term is just meaningless pejorative. both parties are dominated by elites in any conventional sense of what that means! the question is: why are right-wing elites more palatable to voters than liberal ones?

Another reminder that this isn't true! Based on the info we have now, 2024 turnout is very very similar to 2020.

the other thing we dont discuss at all is that the biggest consumer of manosphere stuff isnt 18 year olds, its 35-40 year old assholes with a nice car and lucrative job who still dont get why nobody likes them
Based on the information we have now, young white men were more likely to support Harris than any other age group.

Man-O-Sphere garbage is clearly a problem but Gen X white dudes are more right-wing and far more likely to vote.

The overblown takes on the sliver of Black voters going for Trump seem to have clearly been a permission structure to assuage the consciences of squishy white voters
According to exit polls (which were only conducted in 10 swing states), the demographic with the highest support for Trump was Gen X white dudes.
