Harrison Ruffin Tyler, the last surviving grandson of John Tyler, the 10th president of the U.S., died on Sunday at age 96. He was the last of three generations spanning nearly the entire history of the country. When his grandfather was born, George Washington had just become president.

So glad you asked! The public-domain class of 2025 includes Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms, Woolf’s A Room of One's Own, the 1.0 versions of Popeye and Tintin, Ravel’s “Boléro,” and the first recording of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” - my favorite in this bunch.
