Hey y'all!! We're literally just getting started, but if you're an Developmental / Structural / Line / Copy editor or proofreader, and you'd be interested in working with us, please ping us with your pricing / contact details or for more info about our plans.
So, I was in the process of putting my ethics on a fire to burn them so that the press could have a facebook page.

Apparently I don't need to because facebook say no.

(To be clear, I had literally created a personal account page and not even put anything on it yet).

The amount of stupidity that's going in to making our epubs reliably accessible and pretty across multiple platforms is insane.

Here, meet the beginnings of the AP logo font so that we can successfully render our font in light and dark mode.

Today's been a *day*.

Our first book is really close to being ready for press so we decided to work on the ePUB version of it.

It turns out the theoretical 'knowing ePUB production is a hot mess' thing is entirely different from a practical 'discovering how much of a hot mess it is' experience.

Layout, round 2 has begun! (First time was a practice run).

If we can get our payment processor sorted we should be ready for preorders for our first few books in the next few weeks!

This article by @taliabhatt.itch.io reminded me of what I saw watching author friends challenges and is exactly why we exist.

And also why we're not open yet... Because our first two payment processor options were based in Texas... So now we're working on option 3 www.theverge.com/cs/features/...
Trans women are building their own publishing world, and it’s under threat
Online communities are stepping in where traditional publishing stops.

As a reader, I love when I have access to both a physical book and an ebook edition. The physical book is my favored reading experience, but when I'm traveling the ease of just grabbing my ereader is nice.

So, I'm just wondering what y'all's preference is... Do you buy one, both?

The awesome and delightful @victoriascott.bsky.social is at Elliott Bay books in Seattle tonight. If you can you should go see her (and buy her excellent book).

This is why we need to make this work.

(The radio silence has been business planning time).
She's got a few unsold manuscripts that I'd love to read. It's a big big shame that they haven't sold (afaik).

I feel like I ought to be able to point to the bad posts I was making in 2001 to verify my age for internet purposes
I sure enjoy that there are multiple different services being used to verify my age, that I can’t just hand over my data to a single service but that I have to repeatedly reverify for every tom, dick and discord that asks

this was, typically for the british government, astonishingly poorly executed

Censorship is a sinkhole. You are not safe just because it opens up under someone else's house. Porn. LitFic. Black art. Queer art. Band together, because nobody is safe unless everybody is safe.
Really hoping to see some bigger names like @chucktingle.bsky.social speaking up about the censorship on Itch, because they might be coming for indies now but once they've had some victories with smaller creators they WILL come for every. Single. Person. Writing queer & erotic art

Spent a big chunk of the day talking to another small press & another bookstore.

The rest of it working on the business plan. We have about a third of a completed, workable, business plan. And a friend with finance experience is going to help us with the finance modeling to make sure it's good.

Patriarchy is core to a fascist regime, as is control over cultural production, the means of distribution, the tools to shape ideology and manufacture consent. 'Obscenity' then has always been a tool of control, of regulating sexuality to be ... well, not non-exploitative, but under strict control.
The fascists are counting on you finding erotica and porn too distasteful to support. Because they always start here. And even if they ended here, sexuality and erotism are integral components of queer expression. You can't support queer authors without supporting 'nsfw' content.
