Did some emails and was surprised to get to the end of the list… reader, I was only looking at emails from today 🤦‍♀️

I thought about doing this, then I figured that it would just give the authors extra work. What they have done should satisfy the other reviewer, so I figured I would just emphasise what I liked about their paper and not give the editor a reason to go for another R&R instead of accepting the paper.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Possibly elementary question, but where would be the best (or at least a convenient) place to run an embedding model like Qwen3-embedding which does not run on my machine? #rstats #ai

Was it this post by @sarahjohnson.io? I bookmarked it because thought it was magnificent and useful. bsky.app/profile/sara...

I was loving Claude Code... until I tried it with #rstats. Constant errors, wouldn't use the tidyverse even when asked, "optimized" functions were slower.

Frustrated, I started a session just to teach R to Claude and summarize what it learned into a CLAUDE.md file gist.github.com/sj-io/3828d6...

The Nobel Prize is the wrong way to think about science.

My heroes aren't the people with the endowed chairs at the Ivies. They are the people who do the hard work, day in and day out, and who would take a bullet rather than inflate research findings or block others' competing research.

Working on writing up a short note (and blog post) trying to explain the distinction between model-based and design-based identification.

Any questions regarding this that are burning for you?

Reviewing a paper. I am left puzzled by why the authors removed something good from their paper… It only becomes obvious from reading the other reviews: one of the reviewers is a pain in the backside and they are wrong. Yet, they seem to have got their way...

Absolutely love reading papers on stuff I was obsessed with during my PhD (some 25 years ago). Maybe I was ahead of my time (chokes laughing)

Royal Mail found my coffee, it was sent to the wrong distribution centre. This centre dispatched it to the right distribution centre, which immediately told me that was an error and dispatched it back to the wrong distribution centre 🤪

I have been trying to explain a microfiche machine to one of my dear, brilliant, talented, but clearly too young to be alive collaborators. And it is taking the last of my soul.

“Micro…fish?? I have never heard that word in my life.” I recorded the timestamp so it can be put on my tombstone.
