"we're spending almost as much on office buildings for agents as much as we are on office buildings for humans" is a funny sentence to think on
We're getting extremely close to the day when America spends more money to build data centers than office buildings

Only 5 years ago, office construction spending was 7x data center spending

I try to be open minded when people engage with climate issues, but this kind of argument about AC is really very silly. You only need replace “cooling” with “heating” to see that using appliances/energy to protect against temperature extremes should not be viewed as some kind of moral sin.

The best of this post is the discussion in the replies
If the ECB were prohibited from buying sovereign debt, Italian and Spanish yields would soar and German yields would go negative. We know this from Lagarde's faux pas in Mar. 2020. ECB activity in bond markets redistributes wealth from fiscally sound sovereigns to unsound ones. That is simply crazy.

this is the level of funding where all the possibilities for American politics that have been described as hyperbolic over the past decades - the comparisons to Nazi Germany and other nightmares of the 20th century - become logistically possible and politically likely
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.
