The US education system teaches that Hitler was a bad foreign leader who the US fought heroically, but does a terrible job of teaching where fascism came from and what the roots of far-right politics are. Hence, once people stop believing in the heroism of the US, belief in Hitler's evil goes, too.
For most of my life, I really thought "Hitler was bad" was one of the few political beliefs all Americans beyond a tiny fringe shared. Sure, we might disagree on what made him bad, and many misunderstood his broader ideological framework, but we all agreed he was really bad. No longer, apparently.

Obviously part of this is simply due to growing historical distance from WWII, but part of it also have to do to traditional gatekeepers of knowledge breaking down, and also to the strong social taboo against praising Hitler paradoxically making this the line that an "edgy" thinker now has to cross.

The effect of this sort of rhetoric is going to be that an entire generation, on both left and right, thinks antisemitism is not a legitimate issue but simply a cudgel to wield in political arguments against one's opponents. This sort of rhetoric makes Diaspora Jews less safe.
