«The more we rely on algorithms, the more we normalize their values: automation, prediction, standardization, and corporate dependency. Eventually these priorities fade from view and come to seem natural—“just the way things are.”»

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

This is why OpenAI is selling so aggressively to education at all levels—they want to create entire generations of users incapable of reading, writing and thinking without ChatGPT to hold their hands

And teachers and professors should call this out for what it actually is
To bear out this rosy projection, HSBC assumes that OpenAI will become "as ubiquitous [...] as Microsoft 365" (345mm users worldwide) while bringing in 10x the number of users (3bn).

Trying to work out how the REF can be tweaked around 'national priorities', if those 'priorities' were never communicated to researchers when they undertook the research. Or are they suggesting it's all a game of retrofitting past activities to the measures?

I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.

I’m so fucking pissed that I already go into a classroom thinking “what do I do if there’s a mass shooter” and now I gotta add “what do I do if armed agents of the state come to drag away a student?”

Mark, the problem isn't that fact-checkers have become too politically biased, it's that FACTS have become politically biased.
"We're going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes, similar to X, starting in the U.S," Mark Zuckerberg announces

He asserts that "the fact-checkers have just been too politically biased, and have destroyed more trust than they've created, especially in the U.S."

How the west’s wellness industry is driving Ethiopia’s frankincense trees towards extinction
As rich westerners fuel demand for the ancient fragrance, a lucrative race for the resin is killing the trees but leaving little of the trade’s profit for those gathering it
