I'm launching something for us. Not-Ship: a newsletter using data and visuals to navigate our turbulent world.

Everything feels like A LOT lately. It's all so uncertain. And the way I try to make sense of things is with data. So, that's what Not-Ship is all about. Come chart the chaos with me.

When you’ve even lost O’Leary…
And one observation: you don’t need to go back to Ancient Rome (as O’Leary does) to find analogues. There are much more recent cases of authoritarians axing (or even executing) statisticians when the numbers proved inconvenient.

When Trump encounters a demographic he doesn’t care for, he “disappears” them–in many cases, the very record of their existence.
Meet America’s new “missing persons," and the govt campaign to delete statistical evidence of anyone who doesn't fit Trump’s idea of our new golden age.

I had been reluctant to amplify the theory that Trump's "reciprocal tariff rate" for a given country was based on the dumb calculation: (bilateral trade deficit) divided by (imports from that country)

But now USTR has confirmed it. Brief 🧵

Timely new study re: the financial challenge of car ownership in the US.

"Low-income households, Black households, and households w/multiple vehicles face disproportionate transportation cost burdens."
