“America” didn’t make that decision.

Congressional Rs gleefully cheer it on and the broader political class including virtually every D in Congress is too chickenshit to do anything.

""how America took the emoluments clause "...

Let's be more precise.

It is NOT "America" "saying nay", it is 53 US Republican Senators who wouldn't vote for impeachment for ANY reason and 47 Dem Senators who are too weak and feckless to even hammer the issue home.

It is weird how this kind of corruption is just completely ignored now. That just means the bribery and insider dealing will get bigger and bigger with each administration.

CREW took an emoluments case all the way to SCOTUS during his first term, but it took so long that he'd just left office, and the whole thing was moot, including the findings of the appeals courts that had ruled against Trump. The guy has just been remarkably successful at running out the clock.

Should have been an immediate impeachment for emoluments in 2019 when Dems retook the house. Then they should have done it again for obstruction of justice detailed in the Mueller Report.

It is the easiest, no-brainer, slam dunk reason to impeach all on its own. The framers put it in there for a reason.

I genuinely don't understood how America took the emoluments clause -- the common-sense bar on a president using his powers to line his own pockets, a law children can understand -- and just said, nah, that doesn't apply for our Very Special Boy.
He’s turned the presidency into the world’s largest ATM machine.
