We have kept flagging at @thenewworldmag.bsky.social that one of the big drivers of the “small boats crisis” was the nature of Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal – which Nigel Farage grudgingly backed (with a non-aggression deal at the 2019 election). But it’s often missing from the debate.
Fascinating: Britain is about 13% of EU population. It used to take ~3% of all asylum applications. Now it takes ~10%.

Amazed* this hasn’t been more widely reported.

*not remotely amazed
Although nothing Kemi Badenoch has done since has helped herself, the Conservatives have been on the back foot on this topic from the moment they *kicked off* by asking the government to publish data that it had, in fact, already published:
Elon Musk and the red lines of rightwing politics
Tory calls for new national probe into child rape gangs — that it did not make in government — expose opposition anxieties

Quite the paragraph from James Carville in the NYT:

“Podcasts are the new print newspapers and magazines…To Democratic presidential hopefuls, your auditions should be based on two things 1) how authentic you are on the economy 2) how well you deliver it on a podcast.”

this kind of obviously biased headline is so frustrating when MSM is fighting for credibility

1) New Year’s Honours list is nominated by public not by political leaders

2) Khan has won three elections so the average Londoner clearly doesn’t think he’s a failure

With the Chancellor today talking about “a reset in terms of our relationship with the EU” it’s worth noting the Prime Minister has just said

“obviously there will be no return to freedom of movement, the customs union or the single market”

It allows little room for Rachel Reeves to manouvre
In other news the OBR report the Gov’t keeps quoting from says Brexit is on course to cut UK trade by a staggering 15% - for some reason this part of the report never gets mentioned

Kemi Badenoch tells Keir Starmer that "we had a Budget in March this year and tractors were not blockading the streets of Whitehall afterwards."

Anyway, here's the 'go slow' protest by farmers that blockaded the streets around Parliament following the Conservative Government's last Budget in March

Here are the tractors blockading the streets of Whitehall in March this year. They were protesting - you really couldn't make this up - Badenoch's trade policies. 😂

In a significant Intervention Bank of England governor said this week that Brexit has undermined the UK economy. @skynews.com.web.brid.gy didn’t think that was important enough to raise with the Government Minister this morning. I disagree. If you do too share this report

It's simply incredible. Just absolutely blew it, her nuclear attack for a major moment. Pissed away with a passing reference to some shit she saw online.
It took years for Cameron to call for Brown to resign or Starmer to call for Johnson to resign. Badenoch has gone there after just three weeks. Where else do you have to go after that?

Isn’t this cosy? Badenoch and the pompous Clarkson foghorn having a fireside chat about how the Tories will help tax-dodging wealthy landowners like him.

God knows what she thinks her own govt did to *all* our communities, including rural ones.
Or to the public services that our taxes pay for.
