As I’ve told people before, as one of the few disabled journalists in my industry it’s often on me to represent everyone. But without funding there’s no pipeline to create more disabled journos.

It's not just @equalaccesspublicmedia.org that isn't funded, is hanging by a thread, and can't do anymore "maybe next time" promises.
Accessibility across journalism must be funded. Why? Because accessibility is how we remove barriers for disabled people.

Still stunned that I had a full time job I had to walk away from because they refused to cover gender-affirming care.

To me, there is absolutely nothing good about trying to "cure" or prevent neurodiversity. Or treating it as a disease when it clearly is not. Because that stems from the eugenicist idea that we should be trying to find some weird genetic superiority that doesn't fucking exist.

Words have meaning. They are important. All this stuff about 'it's just words', 'words will never hurt me'; that is all pre-internet age stuff. Words do hurt and it is time we all thought a bit harder about which ones we use and why. Ascribing moral values carelessly- that is also a slippery slope.

It's part of the job, but it's really only a small part. I'm a full time voice actor, and I really only spend maybe 10% of my work time in the booth.
