A user of the anti-blinding-headlight advocacy group at reddit.com/r/fuckyourheadlights tested headlight brightness on multiple vehicles in order to figure out what's going on with regulations and adherence to them.

Here's a 4-part infographic with key findings:

is there any nation or jurisdiction in which vehicle headlight brightness is regulated?

Here's how we avert civil war:

• blue states secede
• blue states immediately ban LED headlights
• everyone moves to blue states
• red states empty
• no war

It is time we reunited humanity over a common enemy and I think that enemy should be people who use blinding LED headlights when night driving.

@clapifyoulikeme.favrd.social is a dear friend of mine and a civil litigator who has dedicated her life to doing good for the world.

She is being sued by a hateful troll for a thread she wrote on Twitter, which she had every legal right to post.

PLEASE if you can spare it help her out.

Frankly, I don't see how FSD is legal in the first place. It's not certified or approved by anyone. It's no different than if I was selling people a fake autonomous driving upgrade that I falsely described as "full self-driving" and which was programmed to manipulate/destroy data in crashes.

Tesla FSD turns off more US consumers than it attracts according to an August survey of 8,000 respondents by Slingshot. And about half of those surveyed think FSD should *be illegal* the way its advertised and works now.... www.cnbc.com/2025/08/28/t...
Tesla FSD turns off more U.S. consumers than its attracts, survey finds
Despite Elon Musk's exhaustive promotion of Tesla's FSD technology, U.S. consumers don't seem to want it.

Here's my pet issues I wanna see a politician run on:
- banning LED headlights
- getting stores to stop locking up shit like shampoo
- throwing up on Jesse Watters
- socializing Google

Side point: adaptive headlight technology. Would save lives if engineered to only be active when the high beams are manually triggered, thus mitigating misuse of high beams. Instead, it's being pushed as a panacea for all headlight related issues

appreciating the miracles of modern technology while still understanding its limitations is one of the most important modern skills one can cultivate

the "that's cool" to "that can do anything" pipeline has been weaponized, but it's not enough to just retreat to the safety of "actually, it sucks"

Referring to crashes as “accidents” or claiming that “speed wasn’t a factor” in a crash, are not random language choices. They’re the result of PR campaigns. Listen to this really important interview with @grantennis.bsky.social by @brooklynspoke.bsky.social @thewaroncars.bsky.social on “Dark PR.”

Wouldn't regulations on intensity be more sensible than mandating multi-thousand-dollar proprietary systems with equally expensive maintenance requirements?

TBF they don't even work on time, it's not a panacea

LED headlights that blind oncoming pedestrians should be illegal.

Usually I'm complaining about them on trucks, but I still have a blind spot an hour later from the damn e-bike with the offending blinding light this time.

specialised experts in specific fields love technocracy as an idea for obvious reasons but one thing they miss is that quite frankly they are not infallible and they huff the fumes of their echo chambers and the public asking them "but are you sure it works like this" is actually normal

1,200 lumens increasing to 12,000 lumens is CRAZY.

LED headlights are out of control.

And yes I know about lighting.

I've been in the lighting industry since 2004. I've been designing LED fixtures since 2008.

If there's one thing Democrats & Republicans agree on, it's that headlights are too damn bright.

Brightness doubled in the last decade, yet standards are from before I was born.

My amendment passed to find solutions bc it's not a binary choice between the light of 1,000 suns & driving in the dark.

LED lighting is great in the home and terrible in headlights. At night it obscures the vision of other drivers. I want headlights to be less bright.

Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.

“Wikipedia is this economic anomaly. In many ways, it’s sort of magical that people will just volunteer without explicit economic incentives to create artifacts that are meant to share knowledge with everyone in the world”
