Sometimes I think about how my younger self would be impressed with what I'm currently creating. They'd be stoked that I took the time to develop the skills to make the art I wanted.

We report while the wind rises: the clouds are getting stretched to the width of the sky, brass and gold from the stormy sunset. In the east, nothing remains of the light already, but the rain is moving in from there, slowly enough to let the day wane in peace.
Digital painting of a sunset sky, fibrous clouds spread out in soft waves. There is bright orange and yellow glowing at the base of the clouds, and purple in the shadows.

Telling myself it is totes okay to just keep drawing self indulgent comic daily instead of some October Drawing Challenge... and saving myself for Cattemage in November.

"My generation was never taught Canada’s darker history. It is a history that needs to be understood if we are going to move forward. Unfortunately, in the case of St. Anne’s Residential School, there is a significant amount of unfinished business."

I spent 12 years working with the survivors of St. Anne's residential school in their attempt to get justice. The government spent millions fighting people who could barely afford the bus ride to the hearings.
There is no reconciliation without justice for St. Anne's.

The Dark Shadow of the Residential Schools Remain
Last Wednesday, I stood at the gates of the abandoned Fort Qu’Appelle Residential School in Saskatchewan.

Never expressing a thing means never releasing that thing.

Talking about our pain & our past-- taking the risk to talk about it-- is not about "ruminating" or "wallowing." It's about preparing to let it go-- realistically, not in the superficial or dismissive "let it go" way.

I am begging Canadians to understand that Canada Post, like public transit, should not be a business - it's a service.

Canada Post is a lifeline for rural, remote and Northern communities and overall, we need to re-evaluate why people think they "need" random shit delivered ASAP.
parismarx.com
The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.
Liberal government frees Canada Post to end home delivery, close some post offices | CBC News
With Canada Post on track to lose $1.5 billion in 2025 and contract discussions between the union and the corporation stalled, the federal government is embarking on a modernization plan it says will ...

I decided the refillable pen was a good idea, since... I keep drawing this project :D

I ... just hit page 99 of rough drafts for my terrible, self indulgent comic project.

Should... I buy a refillable pen to celebrate?

We have the "Curb Cut Effect" where we built something for disabled people and it's super useful for everyone and everyone uses it.

Is there an opposite term? Like for when non-disabled people find a disability tool and it becomes harder for disabled people to access? The Fidget Spinner Effect?

Tbh I don't know a single artist who isn't struggling right now and those that aren't are likely 1-2 gigs away from struggling, so all these AI stans talking about knocking down the "creative elite"...

You aren't eating the rich you're eating your neighbors + helping the rich while you're at it.

TODAY IN LETHBRIDGE! Sept 6, 5pm - 7pm @ Trianon Gallery
strudelbrand.com
Come see #Lethbridge through the eyes of 30+ artists. We took photos of 53 different blank spaces in the city, got them printed big on canvases & gave them to creatives to (re)imagine into public art.

The art they created is on exhibit for the first time Saturday, September 6th. Free to attend!

Tuktoyuktuk Community Corporation is giving cleaning supplies away to residents. Which is good. Last time my cousin bought some it was over $250 (jug of Mr Clean, large TP pack, large paper towels, jug of bleach, garbage bags).

Subsidies for stores to bring things north did NOTHING to lower costs.
