Picking up a bunch of new followers coz of that viral post. 👋

If you think the wording of that one post was clever and succinct you should check out my books, where I sneak in political commentary in oh so many smart and funny ways. 😁

Hi New Followers 👋

You've made a wise choice. 👍

As well as posting silliness and hope for a better world I also write books (full of silliness and hope for a better world). Start with this free book of shorts written to introduce you to the #steampunk world of Hammersmyth.

mybook.to/hammersmyth2
Book Cover for The Hammersmith Tales (spelt with a y instead of an i). A beige background with shadowy images of cogs and clock faces. In the bottom right corner sits a grey cat wearing brass goggles and a green scarf. H elooks out at us with a lopsided grin. His tail is segmented with metal joints and his eyes have mechanical irises. The book's title is across the top in red and gold. Written in white below it says "A collection of steampunk shorts from the author of", then in yellow/gold "Dexter & Sinister Detecting Agents." Below that is the author's name in white, Keith W Dickinson.

I mean, if they've got the money to spare to get these "specialist advisors" into GP surgeries, why not spend it on, you know, more GPs to help people get better quicker?

Just a semi-regular reminder that all of my books are available on Kobo, Apple, Google Play, library services like Libby, and free to read on Kobo+

And for UK residents, signed paperbacks/merch available on my website.

Plus a free short story for newsletter subscribers. All links in bio

Five tablet mock-ups of the augment saga books in a group (with SFINCS finalist badge attached to The Re-Emergence) with the series title above, and five stars plus a review quote below which reads: "I rarely find as successful a blend of science, intrigue, and mystery as I have with this series." The God Sun book cover tablet mockup in the middle on a background with a red dwarf star with a review quote underneath which reads: “[The God Sun] had that creeping discomfort I’ve come to expect from space sci-fi stories that lean towards the dark side. I was hooked!”

And then asking them for £300 for an Uber
barryryerson.bsky.social
Thank you. It sounded nice at first (like a small book club wanted me to talk or something) but swiftly went to payment and me writing a 2 page document for them!

Didn't realise it was a new scam, though it definitely smelt like an old one in new clothes.

It's a little known fact that teenage boys will wait until the last possible second to inform you that they now have no clean trousers for school tomorrow because they messed them up earlier and didn't bother to tell you.

Mate, it's giving more red flags than a matador party that's just gatecrashed a flag factory that specialises in red flags.

My particularly favourite part is how they haven't even named the book properly, yet their readers are interested and excited to read it.

Has anyone come across Better Read Than Dead Bookclub in Florida?

I've had a message from them, asking me to pay £300 for them to talk about and promote my short stories (which I'm not going to do as that's ludicrous).

It's such a great metaphor for their party: ideas that are pushed through without even the simplest of checks on whether it works.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Just finished this lovely story by @nataliekelda 🩵
If you need to read something cozy and romantic, but also melancholic, go grab this book. It's about a chronically ill water nymph that falls in love with a human woman and must face a tough decision about her own life.
Especially recommend if you struggle with a chronic illness and would like to see it reflected in a fantasy(ish) setting.

I find, with my ME, that I've either got the immune system of a bull and won't get ill at all, or of a diseased lettuce and will get horribly ill from a slight cold (once spent an entire week in bed in a fevered delirium from a minor tummy bug).

But there's no way of knowing which one I am today.

It scared the absolute bejeesus out of me, but it's stuck with me for years.

Such a great film.

I love computer games, and this was the console that started it off for me: The G7000.

If it looks ancient, that's because it was (and so am I!).

What started it off for you?

Decades after nuclear war, magic returns.

Whilst some use it for art or subterfuge, others will stop at nothing to have that power for themselves.

FWIW, it sounds like you did an amazing thing.

And all you can do now is hope that it's left enough of a niggle of doubt in her mind that she'll keep exploring that in her own time.

Especially with things like linktree and universal links, there's no excuse not to.

I am once again begging authors to let me buy their books. Please put your itch/amazon links in your pinned post or on your bio. I am very very lazy and will only search for a book for 10 seconds before I get distracted.

I first watched that on VHS having heard nothing about it. I assumed it was just an ordinary scifi.

So, I watched it, alone, with the lights out. Turned out to be the absolute best way to watch it.

Such a great film.

Er, yes and yes.

But, annoyingly, since getting ME I've become intolerant to caffeine and I've yet to find a decaf version of it anywhere.

(I discovered it had caffeine in it by drinking some without knowing and watching my heart rate skyrocket.)

Book Recommendation

I'm going to need you guys to stop what you're doing and pick up Reflections of Lilje Damselfly by @nataliekelda immediately. I picked this up on a whim last night as I was cleaning my little library room. It was calling to me at the top of one of my stacks, because @foxandwit made this lovely edition in one of their last book boxes. I didn't know anything about this book going in, and I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. This book is heartbreakingly beautiful. It packs the biggest punch in only 200 pages. This book is about what it means to lose yourself in chronic illness and how to find yourself on the other side. How to stand up for yourself and what you want. How to find and accept love, even when it's forbidden. And how to take the path less traveled, because it might lead to the most beautiful ending.

My gods this was stunning. I didn't have crying before 8am on my bingo card, but I'm so glad I picked this up. And I kept thinking about the similarities and illness rep between this story and When the Tides Held the Moon, which is another of my absolute favorites of the year.

This is a 5 star read, easy. And it's on Kindle Unlimited. Do yourself a favor and pick up this sapphic love story between a water nymph & a human as soon as possible. My goodness. I'm (almost) too stunned to speak.

Choosing to read indie books is great, solid pat on the back material.

But choosing to read AND REVIEW indie books? You, my friend, are the stuff of legends.

Please don’t tell someone with chronic illness to “just rest”.

We spend an inordinate amount of time trying to rest.

When you’re in constant pain, rest can be elusive.

It’s also not restorative.

“Just rest” is not the solution you think it is.
