A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

USAID’s website has been deleted, all that is left is a note saying all personnel are now on administrative leave and personnel outside the US are to be brought home. Completely illegal, no act of congress or even executive order was signed to dismantle the agency

I have "Fozzymandias" stuck in my head and have absolutely no idea whatsoever to do with it. "Look upon my works, ye mighty, and wokka wokka"? That's nothing. Infuriating.

Ursula K. Le Guin writing "Expand this, describe undertomb more, + labyrinth" to herself in the first draft of The Tombs of Atuan is extremely relatable and really quite magical to see, in a way (I'm in the archive today and it's just as full of wonders as you might think)

I never got over this not being a real thing. If Eli Roth can give us Thanksgiving, then Jason Segal should be able to make this a reality. We need it.
I don’t want to force anybody into anything, but it’s a great time for Jason Segel to release a full length puppet-led vampire musical.

So much to do today! I assembled my new desk chair which is so excellent. I have listened to my Spanish podcasts. I am am reading Legends and Lattes, which is so cute and fun. I have sort of graded a project, and now I'm going to check on my dad's dog. I have not made plans for the new week. 🤷‍♀️

Super proud of the time I took for myself and family this week. Trying to stay chill about the grading and planning I need to get done this weekend with just three weeks left in the semester.

In other news, we are one hour and ten minutes from being on break and this is me 🫠. Trying to finish some work and thinking about how I’m going to blow up my plans for next semester in the name of more choice and agency for my students.

Excellent. I teach where I went to high school. Our community colleges now offer two years free & lots more resources. I would have qualified for this in hs. Even with my unpaid stu loans, I don’t begrudge the students who will benefit from this. A college education change my entire family’s life.

Every year, I'm bummed to not be at NCTE. Last year, my district invited me to go & I felt like I should stay for my mom's birthday. Turned out she passed in October & I would have been too much a mess to go. But the year before, it was 5 MINUTES AWAY & I didn't go then either? Maybe someday soon.

I found Simon Groth because of his epic copyright statement and I slammed the BUY button so hard when I learned about this book which seems like magic.

I am so excited it shipped today. Only 7,193 miles before I have it in my grabby hands.
