the other thing is that this “democratic spirit” stuff is just continental bullshit. the president is not some emanation of the general will of people, he is an elected representative, chosen, for the most part, on the basis of who has persuaded the most people and obtained the most votes
a thing that pro-trump “intellectuals” have never been able to reconcile is that the guy they see as some kind of world-spirit of the american people is very unpopular, which is how you get arguments like this one
