The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

we are all sitting here saying "boy i wish we had escalated more in 2020" i really don't have confidence we're going to be saying "i'm glad we didn't escalate more in 2025" four years from now
There is an escalation ladder here and he understands how that is the absolute last step, one you don't touch until all else has failed and you've done a lot of laying the groundwork. Things are bad, heading that way, it's deadly serious. But we're not there yet and he is right to not say it now.
As Gov. Pritzker says in his opening statement, ICE and CPB are attempting to provoke a reaction by their actions in Chicago. And as he says -- more or less -- at the time stamp below, he won't order state police to physically confront them, b/c he can't.

if I were a national Dem i would be a bit concerned about how the utter fecklessness of Walz and Frey - despite their acknowledgement of the severity of the situation! - will impact the effectiveness of the strategy of "things will be ok if you vote Dems in charge"

that's weird because i thought possibly doing remote schooling for a couple of months too long as thousands died was the biggest and most important policy scandal in history
This is how far you have to scroll on the NYTimes homepage to get any coverage of what's going on day-to-day in an occupied American city where schools are closing because the government is checking the papers of all brown or Asian people then brutalizing, imprisoning or killing them.

there's gotta be some kind of twilight zone thing we can do where we can put all the ICE agents into CECOT or alligator alcatraz while convincing the guards they're totally immigrants, don't believe their protests, just treat them as you would other prisoners
