When I served as a staff writer @miamiherald.com (‘93-‘97) our photojournalists + reporters talked reverently of photojourno #CarolGuzy, who’d departed The Herald in the late ‘80s for the #WaPost. Fast forward: #Guzy is still a force of visual accountability. See her recent pic, via ZUMA Press👇🏾🥺

How many people and children forced to starve in Israeli concentration camps did Israel execute today? Lowest guess I'll allow is 45 of which 27 children, because that's the lowest that figure has been for the past few weeks.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov *fucked him over* personally with his socio-economic theory.

There's a bill passing through parliament at the moment called the Data Bill

An added amendment would completely remove trans people's right to privacy, and could even revert legal documents

We have to apply a lot of pressure on this one too MPs. More info here:

You should. I’ve been directly impacted by their arrogance and made software .

The deference to them is part of the problem , computer technology is now civic infrastructure .

Infrastructure is political .

Race is infrastructure of the US

Racial experts should have always been involves

I would never presume to lecture a computer scientist on how to teach their material, as I am unqualified.

This computer scientist should not pontificate about teaching subjects where he is unqualified.

Teaching about race is political. Full stop.

Worth reading these reflections from Anna Rogers, Tal Linzen, Emily Bender, Sam Bowman, Chris Potts, Chris Callison-Burch, Ellie Pavlick, Yejin Choi, Iz Betalgy, and more.

For me, quoting friends at a conference in 2023: "I care about language. I'm not leaving NLP."

You don’t have to be particularly sharp to decipher the code here.

But if you need someone to say it, this is a major technology company and a sizable defense and intelligence contractor publicly declaring, with only the thinnest patina of deniability, that its cause is white nationalism.

A moment of reckoning has
arrived for the West.
Our culture has fallen into shallow consumerism while abandoning national purpose. Too few in Silicon Valley have asked what ought to be built - and why.
We did.
We built Palantir to ensure America's future, not to tinker at the margins. On the factory floor, in the operating room, across the battlefield - we build to dominate.

23andMe has gone bankrupt and might now have to sell all their user data. what happens when Meta falls? Or Google or Amazon? what happens to all that user data? Who ends up owning the most comprehensive database about you, your life, your habits, and the most accurate model of your inner thoughts?

‪The Bellingcat challenge is back (and set by me this week)!

👉 challenge.bellingcat.com 👈

This week's challenge uses satellite images taken with Landsat 8 - but the colours aren't always 'normal'... 🛰️

Can you complete them? 🔍
A satellite image of an island archipelago. Overlayed white text reads "bellingcat Open Source Challenge".
