"According to a new report by Council Member Lincoln Restler, on an average summer weekday, there are 457 illegally parked cars along key corridors in Downtown Brooklyn — 57 percent of which had legit or fake parking placards (or city gear, aka 'theft vests,' on the dashboard)."
Brooklyn Still Choked by Placard Elite Leaving Their Cars Everywhere With No Consequences - Streetsblog New York City
Drivers park illegally — often with city-issued placards — and virtually none ever gets ticketed by cops.

you missed the detail that he’s being non-compliant and is therefore a risk in the exit row. presumably at that point they can’t trust his word.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

“The implication is that professionals are not thinking about the design, regulation and resulting behaviours within streets as holistically as they should be doing.”

"The single most important behaviour, design or regulation for creating streets conducive to walking and cycling, was physical separation between the modes"

We've got a new study out, learning from a broad mixture of street users, planners and designers

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Highlights
For marginalised street users mode separation is the key to human-scale movement.
Streets conducive to walking and cycling have functional, safe and accessible design.
Professionals must approach street design, regulation and user behaviour holistically.
Combinations of influencing factors persuade people to either use or avoid a street.
There are no easy fixes to the public realm that will work for all non-drivers.

And here's some NYC bike scenes from today - I love seeing folks just going about their day, but on a bike
A man in a brown jacket and red helmet on a classic blue Citi bike A woman in a brown dress and black belt and long black boots bikes by on a Citi ebike while a man making deliveries waits at a light A man in blue jeans and a green camo jacket with a blue milk crate on the back of his bike rolling through a bike lane while another deliverista rolls past, and some folks walk past on the left

DSNY has bike lane sweepers that can fit in narrow bike lanes. the majority of the bike lane can be wide as long as the access points are narrowed. it's lazy design to assume drivers will never do this and that enforcement can handle the rest.

any official communication from DOT about whether they intend to car-proof the bike lane?

“we should favor structural changes over insisting on personal choices”

yeah and how are you going to ban animal agriculture when everyone demands that it continue?

people are reactively defensive about this because they only want climate action that doesn’t impede their favored lifestyle.

One of the advantages of expanding the shared dumpster program in NYC (preferably in place of off-street parking) will be making it easier to hang out on our nice sidewalk furniture without having to spend time right next to loose trash or barely piled up cardboard mountains.

Speaker Johnson canceled House session again. They will be gone all next week.

Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., who was elected on Sept. 23, still hasn’t been sworn in. She will be signature #218 (the magic number) to defy Mike Johnson & Donald Trump and force a vote to release the Epstein files.
