Beyond threat--they are being damaged every damn day now.
Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world:

1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control

2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research

3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest”

All three are under threat.

Wrong. Bad take.

Bluesky should be for whatever an individual needs or wants, and if that is a place to retreat to and watch cat videos, that's completely fine.
I firmly believe we STILL have to be political on this platform.
BlueSky cannot be a retreat from politics and confrontation.
It is only by passionately and assuredly nailing our colours to the mast, albeit in a civilised and respectful fashion, do we even begin to start to change hearts & minds.

I encourage folks who have some level of privilege—like my fellow straight white guys— to act when you see an opportunity to stand up to jerks who are being anti-trans, racist, anti-semitic, or homophobic.

Sometimes it’s as simple as saying:
“Stop that. You’re being a jerk.”

There are a lot of things I don't like. Types of books, genres of movies, kinds of music. So...
I don't read, watch, or listen to them.

No one is forcing anyone to ingest Things they don't like. People need to stop thinking everyone should create Things for their specific temperament.

@safety.bsky.app @moderation.bsky.app here is jesse singal openly skirting around blocks here, on *this platform* not just on twitter. once again asking his followers to harass another user on his behalf

this makes at least 3 examples. (✨, alejandra, cortland)
I've blocked Singal but honestly he likes to do this so I feel like it's open season on creepy incels. Here Singal is, announcing that he's trying to get around the block on this platform by sending his little goons after Cortland.

Inappropriate behavior, but one I expect from him.

People check out "Inazama Delivery". It is about a package courier pig trying to help a shark-costumed alien get back home.

I mean Jesus Christ if you fight people notice. Even if you have some short term losses, it creates momentum. It changes things. People with any degree of awareness and any desire for improvement don’t want norms or bipartisanship. They want to fight. Give us some fucking fighters.
Obama's '08 campaign won the biggest margin of victory in the last 30+ years. Within hours of his inauguration, Republicans went to dinner and agreed to oppose him on every single item. Two years later, they won 63 House seats and 6 Senate seats.
So this the kind of Trump admin that progressives on the Hill and some leftists want to play clever game of footsie with around issues on anti trust and credit card fees?

Support for Trump’s tariffs means higher prices on everything. Gas, food, housing, everything.

Every politician should be asked if they support higher prices on everything due to Trump’s tariffs.

Biden & Harris should not go to his inauguration.

He’s refusing FBI background checks.
He’ll use the military to carry out mass deportations.
He’s trying to bypass Senate confirmations.
He’s declared war on the DOJ & FBI.

That’s just the start. Biden & Harris shouldn’t go. Do not normalize him.

Trump’s pick to chair the FCC signals willingness to revoke broadcasting licenses that the Trump admin deems as not operating “in the public interest.”

By doing so, he’s also implicitly coercing outlets to engage in self-censorship.

This is my basic social contract for social media. Don’t try to force others to post according to your personal sensibilities if you CHOSE to follow them. Unless it’s an obviously reportable offense, simply unfollow, mute, block, or move on. You control your timeline and I control mine.
One more time for new arrivals:

You have your account. Do whatever you’d like with it.

And if I do something you don’t like, you can ignore it, or mute or block me.

But if you reply to tell me what to post or not to post, or how to do it, I’m just going to block you immediately.
