classic shortbread from @smittenkitchen.bsky.social, I swapped in semolina like she suggests and used 1t vanilla paste for flavoring. I'm hoping they're more golden on top from the semolina but maybe I overbaked them, I will find out in a bit. 🍜🍽️

When you could code silly quizzes on Facebook, it was FULL of "what would you be in medieval times?!" etc.

I made one that nearly always answered "died as a child", "died in childbirth", "lived and died as a servant"

People got SUPER mad with it.

(the more rectangular it is when I flip it out of the pan, the easier it'll be to cut the muffins)

In about half an hour it'll get its last fold and then I'll put it in a 9x13 to rise for a bit at room temp before it goes in the fridge overnight. Tomorrow I'll cut and griddle the muffins. I make square muffins so I don't have to deal with scrap dough. #breadsky

“I’m the one who forgets all the humans’ names but can tell you every dog in my neighborhood. Or the one who will happily get down on the ground with the dog, heedless of her clothes. I like dogs better than people sometimes. We had some when I was a kid, my second mom and dad had a pair and bred two litters of puppies, but they and my sisters moved to Foragold when I was twelve. We did get another dog when I was a little older but he was an absolutely terrible dog and destroyed everything. He mellowed out a bit when he got older but he was a terrible dog.”

Alven smiles at the fondness in her voice. “You loved him a great deal.”

“Of course, and I still miss him, but he was objectively terribly behaved,” Roshal says, laughing. “My parents opted not to get a dog after Lucky died. My plan had been to get a job and a place of my own and then figure out if I could get one.”
