Sure would be nice to highlight Lost Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, too.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

I don't care that you did it at the last minute. I care that you happened to put a single iota of thought into it. Even if that single iota is your last brain cell hanging on with the power of Red Bull

As an instructor, I'd rather see your fever dream, No Doze-fueled 4AM essays written at an IHOP rather than anything generated by an LLM.

Hope this helps

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

Holding aside everything—everything—else, the President conducting very sensitive conversations with his Attorney General on an unencrypted social media platform would have been a major scandal any time before 2016. Is he DMing the CIA Director on there? The Secretary of Defense? We don’t know.

WSJ: President Trump believed his Truth Social post demanding prosecutions of James Comey and other political foes was a private message to his attorney general, and "and was surprised to learn it was public."

The talking point “whatever you think of AI it’s here to stay” is a political position and a radical one, not a statement of fact.
britthates.bsky.social
Jason Blum's take on AI sucks. an AI takeover isn't inevitable, and treating it as such (while also referring to filmmaking as "content creation," smdh) helps AI companies promote the lie that their deeply unprofitable, destructive tech is more powerful and useful than it actually is.

Does it depend on where you're from/where you are? I've only heard it one way but I didn't get much outside the boston/cambridge/Somerville areas

What we don't talk about enough is the dignity harm suffered by women who have to share the public sphere with guys who go around talking about our bodies like we're a public resource whose use and distribution they're qualified to determine.

One time I had to do my weekly video therapy call from the vestry of st nicks, except it was that time of month where the electricity wasn’t working so I had a bunch of candles lit, and then my therapist paused mid sentence and said “oh someone just came in” and then that someone walked thru a wall

How bad a mess was the church vestry previously? Well there's a priest who visited St Nicks once, never held a service, and only passed through the vestry briefly - and four years later he still mentions to me how thinking about the state of our vestry gives him anxiety.

Part of the transition from conservatism to authoritarianism is the shift from lies with some veneer of plausibility (wink wink) to lies that are demonstrably, obviously lies, such that accepting them involves an almost total subjugation of individual discernment or judgment.

I will say that the more scary and bizarre their rhetoric gets it feels so weird to like, take the kids to soccer practice. Everything is normal here! Portland is especially lovely right now!
