Art and writing is a form of protest. It is a form of empowerment. It is part of being human.

That is why you write when the world is on fire.

But the bigger reason that you should write and make art, is that your work is someone else's respite.

You don't know who they are. They may be someone in the future. But if you have escaped into a book, or a painting, or a TV show... Someone created that.

You can do that for someone else.

If you're a writer, wondering why you should bother writing with the world on fire. It feels like it's not important, I need you to understand that it is.

Even if it is just because it keeps you moving forward? Even if it only brings YOU joy, that gives you energy to fight & survive.

“But what do you expect Democrats to doo-hooo?”

1) Refuse to fund this criminal government anymore.

2) EVERY one of them call to abolish ICE (and bonus, DHS). No more “they need training” shit. Promise prosecutions.

3) EVERY one of them call for Trump’s impeachment, relentlessly, EVERY day.

The history books (if we even have books in this future) are not going to be kind to the people who sat on their hands on impeachment.
We just had a week that changed everything, including my view of impeachment. Before: Wait until 2027. Now: Embrace it in 2026 and hold hearing-like forums to spotlight the many articles of impeachment filed against Trump and his cabinet. My latest @thebulwark.com www.thebulwark.com/p/embracing-...
Embracing Impeachment
The case against Trump and his cabinet keeps growing—and the argument for waiting is no longer convincing.

I needed something to distract myself, so I decided to start writing a blog post for my rarely-used-blog and realized I've completely forgotten how.

I must have anticipated this moment because one of the 2 posts on the site right now is some documentation on how I set it up.

Yay past me!

Every reaction from any Democrat that stops short of impeachment is utterly disqualifying.

If this isn't it, then what is the line at which you would do the bare minimum of contacting your representatives?

I keep seeing reddit comments along the lines of "well, everyone is using AI for code, so who cares" and they just all make me want to scream.

As someone who gets a lot of marketing email I keep seeing this and I'm glad that someone has done a write-up about it.

LLMs suck for a number of different ways, but I think that the marketing absorption of all machine learning techniques into the "Ai" term is one of the lesser seen impacts.
To capture funding and ride the wave of the AI bubble, a variety of institutions (commercial and otherwise) have pivoted to calling their machine learning applications "AI."

The paper I am linking below explains what's going on here. But there's also more to it than that!

I'm told that HHS has just terminated all funding agreements with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Here's a letter HHS sent canceling one of the grants, relating to work on birth defects. Canceled because the project "emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion as key foundational components"

Washington’s refusal to regulate AI is a corruption story. Just ask Donald Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson.

Well at least I still have a personality instead of letting the slop box generate one for me

Also, help me get off Google!

I just finished reading Christopher Ruocchio's "Empire of Silence" and went to go look to see what the next book in the series was.

Turns out there 7 (!!) more books and the most recent and final was released last week!

now that they've stopped making pennies, americans should update our sayings:

* you can't put your two cents in, you must now put your five cents in
* nickel for your thoughts?
* a nickel saved is a nickel earned
* nickels from heaven
* worth every nickel
* penny-pinchers are now nickel-misers
