No woman I know in academia would be surprised by this, but its good to see it documented like this, I guess.
Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."

Just want to add: Being convicted of a crime in the U.S. wouldn’t justify sending someone to a foreign gulag to be tortured, and arguably violates separation of powers since the “sentence” they are legally bound to serve is one issued by a judge, not Stephen Miller (i.e. the factoid is irrelevant)
Bari Weiss lied in her memo. She said segment didn't report administration's legal justification (it does in the very first sentence) and didn't say how many detainees had been charged with crimes as opposed to just those who were convicted (it does). www.muellershewrote.com/p/watch-the-...

This by @parkermolloy.com is worth reading to the end: "The entire history of adversarial journalism depends on the premise that reporters can publish true, well-sourced information even when the subjects of that information would prefer they didn’t. What Weiss has done is abandon that premise."
I wrote about Bari Weiss, 60 Minutes, CBS News, and what all of this says about the state of mainstream media. www.readtpa.com/p/the-kill-s...

This episode is about one historically significant guy.

But it's really about achievement addiction, self-definition, depression, and regret. Making appearances: LBJ, Bill Moyers, MLK, Ted Turner, and Gorbachev.

Please listen.

A really important episode today, unlike any we've done before. Tom Johnson, who had a front row seat for so much history, talks about his career, his suicidal depression, and his regrets.

We can't force you to listen, WOULD if we could, but we hope you do.

CBS didn't run the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT, but over here at @propublica.org we've been working on the story since March, including finding out who each and every man sent to that maximum security prison was.

I keep seeing people try to analyze politicians in this “wins above replacement” type model when predicting elections and I really think sports analytics are a terrible lens to view the world through because the most important adage in sports is “you can do everything right and still lose”

Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

The story is insane. The acting head of cyber security, a Noem crony, repeatedly demanded to see highly classified information he didn’t need access to, and when staff set up a lie detector test as a condition to grant him access, he failed it. So DHS suspended the staffers.

The irony is, there actually IS one person I can think of who talks eloquently, and often, about how his faith informs him as a person and a citizen, and who does it in a way that even atheists listen to and respect. But CBS canceled his late-night show and it’s going off the air in May.
