Proud to share what we hope will be a reference study on human oocyte proteostasis. Young-donor eggs show globally reduced organelle activity vs. somatic cells, with an even steeper drop as they mature.

🚨JOB ALERT🚨

FRIENDS PLEASE SPREAD and RT

We are building a small expert team within the @bokelab.bsky.social at @crg.eu @prbb.org to investigate fundamental questions in oocyte cell biology, focusing on how proteostasis regulation influences dormancy and fertility.

Epithelial crowding drives membrane depolarisation by ENaC/Na+ entry which triggers rapid volume loss, piezo activation and live cell extrusion. Importantly, low intracellular ATP primes cells for live extrusion by preventing the restoring of mb polarisation.

Here we go again! Our paper on #proteostasis in human oocytes appeared on the latest @embojournal.org cover! A great collaboration with Dexeus Mujer @bokelab.bsky.social ! 🥂👏🏻💪🏻
We’re so happy that our review on “Proteostasis in cellular dormancy” was chosen for the cover of the August issue of @cp-trendsbiochem.bsky.social in the old-school way; we were invited! Many thanks to our editor, Sannie Culbertson, and the reviewers for a great experience - EB

📢 Our August issue is online!

🎨 The cover highlights a Feature Review from Stephanie Rosswag de Souza, @gzaffagnini.bsky.social, and @bokelab.bsky.social on how proteostasis functions in cellular dormancy across a number of examples, from yeast to adult quiescent stem cells and vertebrate oocytes.

Pleased to share my new review:

Ovulation: A cellular symphony in three movements 💥🥚

Ovulation is more than egg release—it's a tightly regulated, tissue-scale process. Here, I present a temporal framework structured as a symphony performed by the cells of the follicle.
